Feature: Dead Headspace Guest Hosting- Best of Season Two

February 28, 2022      Erica Robyn      3 Comments

Oh man! I just realized that I hadn’t written up a quick post to recap the Best of Season Two episode of Dead Headspace. Better late than never I suppose!

Join us for another show where we share our favorite moments of the show in season one and then discuss our favorite reads of 2021!

Let’s dive in!

Give the episode a listen here:

My Favorite Clips from Season Two

Episode 64 – Alan Baxter
In this clip that I wanted to throw in, Brennan asks Alan Baxter which artists he would choose if he could create Blind Eye Moon, the band featured in The Gulp, if he could choose from bandmates from some of Alan’s favorite real-world bands. Alan’s reaction to this question made me laugh right out loud every time I listened to this episode!

Episode 122 – 2nd Annual Halloween special with Janine Pipe
The clip I included here was when Hunter Shea jumped on to surprise Janine Pipe. Janine’s reaction was just so wonderful. I know we were all SO excited to celebrate Janine on this episode, and being able to surprise her a bit was fun!

Episode 68 – Accepting Rejection
I couldn’t pick a specific bit here, so I let Patrick choose what he thought would be best. I wanted to highlight this episode because, first of all, the authors were hilarious here. I was laughing so much while listening. And second, I think that this entire episode needs to be something authors listen to at least once a year, or whenever they are feeling down about rejection. There are so many incredible stories and tips here.

Favorite Books of 2021

Interested in learning more about the books I mentioned on the show? Here are the links to my blog posts in order of when it was referenced along with some notes!

  • Slattery Falls by Brennan LaFaro
    • On the show, I first showed how hard I geeked out over my copy that Brennan had sent my way before raving yet again about Brennan’s work.
  • Dark Blood Comes From the Feet by Emma J. Gibbon
    • A major shout-out to Emma yet again for being SO patient while I had a snafu with my honest review form!
    • Let me leave you all with the note I left this section of the show on, a quote from my review of this book was; “I mean, I can’t stop thinking about completing taxidermy on humans… So…”
  • The Best of Indie Horror: Christmas Edition by KJK Publishing
    • Prepare yourself for how many times I say Steve Stred’s name in this one! If you’re playing a drinking game for how often we name drop, be careful here! Ha!
    • And goodness, you get to see how awkward I get when I want to say something that has a swear in it as I don’t swear myself!
  • In Darkness, Shadows Breathe by Catherine Cavendish
    • This book features a line that still haunts me! “You’re next…”
    • I also showed off my Flame Tree Press tee during this chat! 🙂
  • Blind Rage by Nick Clausen
    • The first installment in a new series Nick is working on!
    • This was another book that made me super paranoid out in the real world!
  • The Sound of Breaking Glass by Christine Makepeace
    • I need everyone to pick this one up! I loved how much this collection stuck with me with how impactful each story was.
  • Blackberry Blood Anthology edited by Aiden Merchant and Julia Lewis
    • An amazing collection that I just can’t stop raving about!
    • I still can’t believe I had the chance to be included in this one! (Thanks Aiden!)

And then we had the speed round where I mentioned:

  • All Things Deadly: Salem Stories by E.C. Hanson
  • Once Upon a Fang in the West by John Dover
  • Everything’s Annoying by J.C. Michael
  • The Gulp by Alan Baxter
  • Anoka by Shane Hawk
  • Cruel Summer by Wesley Southard

Here are a few other books that the other hosts mentioned or I brought up when we were raving about a certain author that were on my list as well:

  • Things Have Gotten Worse Since We Last Spoke by Eric LaRocca
  • The Strange Things We Become And Other Dark Tales by Eric LaRocca
  • We Can Never Leave This Place by Eric LaRocca
  • Mister Glow-Bones and Other Halloween Tales by Ronald Kelly
  • The Web of La Sanguinaire & Other Arachnid Horrors by Ronald Kelly
  • Season’s Creepings: Tales of Holiday Horror by Ronal Kelly
  • Hearts Strange and Dreadful by Tim McGregor
