[Wrap-Up] April 2019

April Wrap-Up For Erica Robyn Reads

To kick off this month, Alex and I went to a baby shower for our friends, Amber and Robby! The shower was wonderful! We cannot wait to meet little Max.

At work, my coworker Emily organized an office-wide Game Of Thrones Death Pool! I’m so excited for this season, but I am SO NERVOUS as well.

GoT Death Pool

At work, we participated in the Move More day where we went for a mile walk at lunch time. Of course, a handful of people from our company all walked from the office to the meet up spot, so it ended up being more like a two and a half mile walk πŸ™‚ 15 of the people in the shot below are from CCA!

This month, I also started planning the Bridal Shower and Bachelorette party for my friend Heather of Heather’s Reading Hideaway! I’m so excited for how each is turning out, but of course, I totally sucks having to keep the plans from her!

The next five paragraphs in italics may be TMI- so feel free to skip! (Medical updates)

And goodish news- I finally had the doctors appointment that I had been nervous about, but I’m so glad I finally got it over with! The first appointment was just for the ultrasound. My gosh, drinking the amount of water required before this exam was awful! I almost peed myself, so I’m so happy they were able to get me in early!

From the first appointment, I learned that my uterus is titled totally backward and I have a fibroid. Each item alone could cause my pain, but together, the tech said she couldn’t believe I hadn’t come in earlier! We also learned that my uterus is so tilted and pinched off that my periods don’t drain fully… Which was gross to hear, but it also explains why my sudden stabbing pains and sudden extremely heavy flow happens.

The next appointment was for a follow up with a specialist to discuss next steps. So in May, I will be having a Sonohysterogram which will help us get a better look to determine if I need surgery or not. Phew!

I was so relieved to have answers and know that my pain isn’t just “normal” though! So if you need to hear this: don’t let your doctors tell you something is normal if your gut it telling you otherwise! Get a second (or third, or fourth, etc.) opinion!

Lastly, I ended the month by getting horribly sick and having to call out of work for two days, then struggling for the weekend. It seems like my cyclic vomiting syndrome may be back… I had this back in high school and it took ages to discover that it was my birth control causing it. So at least I’m aware this time! I’ve already brought this up with my doctor. So we will see how it goes. Fingers crossed it was just one random bout of it!

Without further delay, let’s dive in to my monthly wrap-up!

My Reading Breakdown for April:

  • 5 Stars- 4
    • The Body by Stephen King
    • Carnival of Horror by Kevin J. Kennedy

    • The Luminous Dead by Caitlin Starling
  • 3 Stars- 0
  • 2 Stars-1

Monthly Musings

Watching:

Stand By Me (1986 Film)
This was Alex’s first time watching this!! I’m so excited that I got to share another of my favorites with him! 5/5

Chilling Adventures of Sabrina (Netflix Series, Season 2)
Ugh, we are struggling to get through this season. I don’t care about it in the slightest, but I want to stay on top of the show so I’m ready for season 3. 1/5

The Meg (2018 Film)
Oh my gosh, I LOVED this! It was so exciting and creepy, but also had a wonderful level of humor. 4/5

The Office (Season 1 & 2)
I FINALLY started this series after years of my brother asking me to watch it. I am obsessed with it, but I definitely need to watch it on a small screen. The camera movements makes me feel so nauseous! 5/5

New Girl (Seasons 6 & 7)
I took a break from this show for a bit because I was so sick of the back and forth drama between Jess and Nick. I started in again while I was sick and fell in love with the show all over again! I’m was so happy to see the storyline progress as it did and the ending was perfect! 5/5

Fahrenheit 451 (HBO Film)
I enjoyed this! I was SO ready for the, “It was a pleasure to burn” line and cheered when it was finally said. I really liked the modern twist. And of course, adored Michael B. Jordan. Though for me, I think I would have liked this more as a three part series. It felt too rushed to me and while I knew the characters from the book, comic adaptation, and older film, I didn’t feel much of a connection to them in this adaptation. 4/5

Game Of Thrones (Season 8)
Of course, we’re watching this season of GoT! We’re both loving it, but I will say that it seems to have a lighter, more humorous feel to it. Not sure what’s going on there…

Playing:

Alex and I played quite a bit of Lego Marvel Superheros 2. We’re loving it!! It’s so much fun to play a game together! And this one is pretty low-key so it doesn’t make me sick. I can’t really play the characters that sly or spin around though, I leave those tasks to Alex.

We also put together a Liberty Puzzle that my grandma had bought for us. It was SO difficult but so fun! Just look at the shapes of those pieces!

Easter Liberty Puzzle

Drinking:

Alex and I had a date night and I had a delicious glass of Riesling! I need to find this brand!!

I also went out with coworkers twice this month. Once to celebrate the last week at our company for Jenna before she goes back to school, and once to attend trivial with Morgan. I was so pumped to learn that the trivia we went to had a round where they played parts of audiobooks! The first pick was Animal Farm, which I’ve been meaning to reread! I NEED to do that soon!

Closer to the end of the month, we had another date night because Alex had some exciting news to share about his work. I’m so proud of him and I’m so glad that things are moving in a good direction for him!

Listening to:

I’m still binge-listening to the Crime Junkie Podcast. I love it so much!

Looking forward to:

In May we have our annual Mothers Day Extravaganza! I’m so excited to go see my family for the first time since a couple weeks before Christmas! This is always a crazy, but fun event with lots of food!

We also have the birthday of one of our favorite little ones, Theo! As well as the due date for our friends, Amber and Robby!

May also holds the Walk Against Hunger! I’m the team leader for our company and I’m so excited for this event! Alex is participating as well! We’re fundraising for Families In Transition, a wonderful organization that provides hunger relief, emergency shelter, safe affordable housing and supportive services to individuals and families who are homeless or in need enabling them to gain self-sufficiency and respect. If you’d like to make a donation, feel free to do so here.

And of course, I’m so excited for warmer weather. We’ve had a few nice April days, but not nice enough to really enjoy them. There’s been quite a bit of rain and some cold spells.

Thanks for reading!

Such an awesome recap! I finally started watching The Office this year too and OMG…. I love it. How do you feel so far about this season of GoT. Every episode has been making me nervous for all the characters I love.

I’m glad your doctor’s appointment went well, and that they know what’s going on, but that’s craziness! And the first time I had an ultrasound I had to drink all the water and omg, it was awful. LOL

Your work sounds like such a cool place! I love that you’re doing a walk, I hope it goes well and you raise lots of money.

How fun you’re planning a Bachelorette party and Bridal Shower. Those are always fun. πŸ™‚

That baby shower cake is so beautiful. I can’t believe anyone could have cut into it!

And, yeah, the whole tilting uterus thing is just Unfair! It’s a genetic anomaly in my family and always used to mean double smear tests for me because the nurses couldn’t get a clear swab πŸ™
