A Fistful of Fangs by John Dover is a bloody tale set in the west in a growing town where the local tavern clashes with the local church in more ways than one…
For fans of John Dover’s Once Upon A Fang in the West, this follow up tale is a killer!
Let’s dive in!
My Thoughts on A Fistful of Fangs by John Dover –
When Juliette is traveling across country after the loss of her husband, her coach is attacked, leaving her the sole survivor. When she ends up in a small town where the railroad hasn’t yet made its way, she finds friendship with someone who has a history of her own.
Of course, the tension between the character and the church is already simmering, but when both Juliette and Ruby are in the same picture, things really go up a notch.
My gosh, this tale starts with a bang! It’s such a terrifying scene that sets the tone of the rest of the book incredibly well. I was SO nervous to see what was going to happen. The scene was set so perfectly that I immediately felt like I was there in the small circle of light, just waiting for the next attack. I caught myself far too many times holding my breath while reading!
There is SO much action in this book! Each intense scene brings its own level of bloodshed and terror, and each one builds up to the biggest one of them all. But of course, things aren’t finished there…
I was totally hooked with this tale! I also really enjoyed how the author mixed in other points of view to really give us the full display of these characters and their paths.
My Favorite Passages from A Fistful of Fangs –
The full moon teased its appearance as the sun dipped its toe behind the mountains. Juliette felt she could trace her fingers across its surface it was so large this evening. The kind of moon that you could reach out and pluck from the sky like a ripe apple.
“Are there any weapons on your coach? I’ve got my six-shooters, but that would be like trying to take down a buffalo with a kind word.”
Unholy creature or not, he didn’t have the ability to fly. He flailed through the air, his nakedness displayed for the world to see. He arced through the sky and dropped into the livery roof coming to rest in an uncleaned stall. He smashed to the ground atop a pitchfork that lodged itself in his back.
My Final Thoughts on A Fistful of Fangs –
Horror fans who love the supernatural and the wildness of the west, you’re going to love this blood-drenched and action-packed tale!
