[Wrap-Up] May 2020

[Wrap-Up] May 2020

Right first thing this month, our Stay-At-Home order was extended through May 31st, and then again through June 15th. On one hand I was really happy that our state is taking things carefully, but on the other, I’m selfishly upset as my tattoo appointment has to be rescheduled again…

On the bright side, a bunch of flowers bloomed in our yard this month! It’s been so fun to see what the previous owners had planted!

I also planted a few new things; one plant pot on the deck, some lupine (which were immediately eaten by something), and hen and chicks from my mother-in-law!

I also got our window boxes planted and LOVE the yellow pansies!

My plants indoors are also doing well! I replanted this guy, and it’s doing wonderful it it’s new home!

A piece of art that I ordered from Northwood Supply arrived! I’m obsessed:

We also got out Schrute Farms print framed and hung up!

AND I got my amazing print created by Chad Wehrle and sent to me from Michael Clark hung up next to my quote board. I wanted to use the quote, “She believed she could, but she needed a break so she said no” but I didn’t have enough letters… This works for now though!

Alex and I also ordered cushions for the patio furniture we were gifted by the Shermans! I LOVE the red! We haven’t yet been able to really enjoy these as the pollen in our area is absolutely OUT OF CONTROL! Hopefully we’ll be able to get out there soon!

This month also held a birthday parade for a very special three year old! <3

I also made a TikToc featuring my books that I had purchased after Corona Con:

Phew! Now, let’s dive in to the rest of my recap!

Monthly Musings

Watching:

Waco (Limited Series) – 5 Stars
Ugh. I went into this show knowing only two things. 1) That the son of my high school teacher was there and survived by jumping out a window. 2) That quite a few people died. I had no idea just how horrible this event really was. They did an amazing job with this. It was based off of the book that my teachers son had written as well as a book that a hostage negotiator had written. I have never ever watched something that made me feel this ill, but I would still recommend watching. Just go into in in a good headspace.

Creepshow (2019 Series) – 5 Stars
I am LOVING this! I’m so grateful it was launched on cable so I could give it a watch without having to pay for Shudder.

The Emperors New Groove (2000 Film) – 5 Stars
My favorite comfort movie to rewatch! <3

Dredd (2012 Film) – 3 Stars
I enjoyed this one well enough. The cast was amazing and the special effect were neat! I was a bit bored with the pacing overall though.

Up and Vanished (Series 2020) – 5 Stars
My goodness, this show will get your blood boiling! I hope these cases get solved soon!

Parks and Recreation (Series) – 5 Stars
Alex recently started watching this for the first time! I’ve been catching a few episodes here and there with him when he watches when I’m still awake! He usually watches TV after I go to bed, so I’ve missed quite a few, but I’m always happy to rewatch anything from this show!

If you haven’t already, please also give this a watch!

Riverdale (Season 3) – 4 Stars
This freaking show… So much drama but I’m hooked.

Playing:

More virtual trivia! This session I hit a personal high score thanks to the rounds about Disney songs and boys from boy bands! Ha!

Drinking:

I’m a big fan of this Guava Gose from Collective Arts Brewing!! I tried this one thanks to a recommendation from my coworker, April.

Listening To:

I’ve been listening to a lot of my heavy rock/metal songs, still! It’s so calming for me. But this month, I also listened to a LOT of HIM. I’ve been especially hooked on these two songs:

Dead Headspace Podcast Feature

The Dead Headspace Podcast launched this month!! I binge-listened to each of the six episodes that are out now. They’re SO much fun to listen to. Learn more here!

In the bookish community:

I was given a shoutout by the amazing Katie Southard of the Make Me Read Your Book podcast! If you haven’t yet, go check this podcast out! If you listen to this episode, check out time stamp 3:27!

Check out this amazing post from Laurie of Bark At The Ghouls, PSA: How Not To Approach A Reviewer.

This post from Dead Head Reviews…. Please give it a read! This is so important. I will always advocate for adding trigger warnings to the back of books to help those that need the support. [Mental Health Awareness] – Trigger Warnings: Good for Readers AND Authors.

Monthly bookish related haul:

The rest of my Corona Con orders came in this month… not including the pre-orders that I’ll be receiving later this year.

Annnnd here are the rest of the books that made their way to me this month, including my amazing copy of Anger Is An Acid that was sent over from Michael Clark himself!

My favorite bookish photos this month:

I have three favorites this month 🙂

HOW COOL IS THIS?! I’m SO grateful for the opportunity to both read this amazing novel (Anger Is An Acid by Michael Clark) before it was launched and to be blurbed on the back!!

Great wrap up! I so love the pictures you are taking with the stained wood. It’s so aesthetically pleasing! The plants look great as well. It makes me want to work in my garden!

Thank you! <3 I need to do more work in our garden soon. My next big project is cutting back all the vines that are taking over!

Lots of lovely flowers there! Our garden is a weedfest right now but we hope to tackle theproblem through the summer. I have sympathy about the pollen as I have a nasty bout of hay fever going on right now. Excellent book ratings there…I long for a month of five star reads! I’m looking forward to seeing what you think of all your new books too. I really need to find a way back into my horror books. Maybe I need to write out more lists-one for under 100 pages, one for 100-150 pages, one for 150-250 pages and read one from each list plus the reading list I have been working from. That way I’ll see more progress.

I’m so jealous of all those great sounding berrs that you get to try! I can’t even order normal beer from the supermarket or Amazon because I don’t have any photo ID for the delivery people!

Oh I hear ya!! You should see the rest of our yard…. there’s ivy ALL over the place that we need to cut back. It is pretty, and it gives us more privacy from the neighbors, but it’s really taking over. Ah! I hope you’re starting to feel better. That list idea is awesome!! I love shorter books so much. It’s so much fun to dive into them, get totally immersed, and finish them in just a couple of hours 🙂

    Love that quote board lol

I’m watching some bulbs come up at my new place and wondering what they are. A few irises just finished blooming.

What a great wrap up! I love the flowers and nature in your garden and around your home. And yay for a month of only four and five stars! And I adore the fact that you managed to get so many new horror books as well. I do really want to read the new Grady Hendrix as well.

Such beatufiul flowers! Thank you for sharing. Our patio cushions are red too! Albeit much more dusty because they aren’t as new, but still. I love the look of your!

I would like to see Waco at some point. I have heard it is good. I remember being horrified just watching the news about it as events unfolded. I was in college at the time.

I hope you have a great June, Erica. Happy reading!
