[Wrap-Up] March 2020

Wrap-Up March 2020

Before things with COVID-19 hit our area, this month held some small adventures and fun events!

Early in the month, my friend Morgan and I headed to Henniker, NH to check out two used bookstores. The shops were wicked dusty and we ended up having allergies and had to cut our trip short, but we had so much fun! Check out my post about the Henniker Book Farm here!

Henniker Book Shops

We also attended an awesome trivia night at the Rex Theater!

Also this month, we finally had some trees cut down from our yard. The biggest one was a major problem for us with the acorns and how it was growing over the house. That sucker was massive and made a horrible mess.

Soon after that, our state started to take measures to flatten the curve with COVID-19.

Alex and I are very lucky and we both have jobs that allow us to work from home. It was a very stressful month work-wise… I was working very long days and ended up giving myself tendonitis in my pointer finger from so much clicking and typing… But I made sure to take a bit of time each morning before diving into work to drink my tea and watch the sunrise from my library window, and we made it through!

This month, I also received my awesome order from Cassie! To order a toon of your own, check out her shop, LetsGetGalacticArt, on Etsy!

    • A World of Horror edited by Eric J. Guignard
    • Eating Vegan: A Plant-Based Cookbook for Beginners by Dianne Wenz

    • Stitches: A Neo-Noir Thriller by Kevin J. Kennedy, Steven Stacy

Monthly Musings

Watching:

Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark (2019 Film) – 4 Stars
Oh my gosh! I took me FOREVER to see this. It was well worth the wait. I loved seeing these creatures come to life in this film. The story line was also well done. I would love to see a follow up to see more of the monsters, but we’ll see.

Altered Carbon (Season 2) – 4 Stars
I gotta say, I enjoyed this season MUCH more than the first!

The Walking Dead (Season 10) – 5 Stars
We returned from the mid-season break and AH! The first episode had me actually terrified.

Letter for the King (Netflix Series) – 5 Stars
We LOVED this!! I can’t wait to see if this comes back for a second season.

Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness (Netflix Original) –
I’m really not sure what to think of this one yet…

Playing:

We attended trivia night at a local theater! This event was so cool. It was our regular trivia, but there was a live band! The singer was AMAZING.

Trivia Night At The Rex Theater

My friend Morgan also organized a wonderful virtual trivia weekly event for us all to take part in while we can’t go out. She asked for everyone to give $5 each, and the winner gets the pool of money to buy a gift card from a local restaurant.

Drinking:

One night when Alex and I were feeling wicked anxious, we brought out our “Just Because” prosecco from our friends, the Shermans, who gifted us a huge basket of wines for our engagement. This seemed like a fitting time to pop this one open so we could relax and enjoy something during really stressful and scary times.

Just Because Wine Gift

Listening to:

“The Drug In Me Is Reimagined” by Falling In Reverse popped up in a playlist for me on Spotify and I quickly became OBSESSED. I love the original version a ton as well. I highly recommend listening to both! 🙂

In the bookish community:

The Literary Apothecary wrote up an amazing discussion post about keeping your word as a reviewer.

Check out this amazing post from AJ Sterkel: Coronavirus Is Hurting The Book Community. Here’s How To Help.

Monthly bookish related haul:

Right first thing when shops began closing or adjusting store hours, I placed orders for gift cards at two of my local bookshops. I highly recommend doing the same to places in your community if you are financially able <3

The only other books and bookish items I snagged this month included eBooks and a bookmark of Mildred, which you can see in the second photo below.

My favorite bookish photos this month:

In case you missed it:

  • 2 April Book Releases I Can’t Wait To Read
  • Visiting the Henniker Book Farm in Henniker, NH
  • Books With Less Than 200 Pages

Looking forward to:

Warmer weather! That’s the key thing that’s keeping me optimistic 🙂

Thanks for reading!

Funny, I liked the first season of Altered Carbon better than the second, but different strokes for different folks. I love the pink tulip book photo!

I’m glad you were able to have a little fun before this thing had started! Besides the allergies from it, I would LOVE to go used bookstore hopping! And trivia night seems like such a nice experience.. I haven’t heard of anything similar near me, only in films and such :/

Oooo that Toon me is so pretty!! She did a good job ❤️

<3 <3 Yeah, allergies are such a bummer. I think if I had made the trip a little quicker, it wouldn't have been so rough. And right?! She sure does amazing work!!

I remember seeing your photos on IG and thought what a lovely little book store. It’s wonderful you were able to get out and about before the virus.

Oh no.. The Drug In Me Is Reimagined, I think I’m obsessed now! Love the video, I’ll have to look up more of their music.

    Stay healthy!

It’s definitely been a weird month! Your beginning trips sound fabulous and I’m sorry to hear about the tendinitis. My husband is working from home and he’s had to do some adjusting. He had a hard time “leaving work” for the first few weeks but it seems to be getting better. Hope you have a wonderful April!

Right?! I’m so curious to see how this month goes… It sounds like it’s going to be an odd one as well as everything is pretty much shut down in our area. Oh gosh yeah, that’s definitely one of the most difficult things! It’s so easy to just jump back on to take care of a few things…then before you know it, you’ve but in 3 hours of overtime… I hope you both have a great April as well!

The Book Farm – I love that name.

That’s a huge tree. We used to have so many trees at my old place and my new house has none and it feels weird lol

    You have a beautiful view.

The end of March found us in such a different place than the beginning, didn’t it? I am glad you both are able to work from home. I am so glad my husband is able to work from home full time. I don’t know what we would do about childcare otherwise. I am only able to work at home part of the week. The other part, I have to be in the office. Love the cartoon art! It came out very well. I can’t bring myself to watch Tiger King. It would make me too angry. There are a couple of books I I hope you have a good weekend, Erica. Stay safe and well.

Yay for enjoying some used bookshops before everything went down! And I am glad you were able to have so many 5 and 4 star reads this month. Yay for being able to work from home and that it has been well. But I can understand about sore fingers from spending so much time at the computer…
