The Siren of Groves Peak by Glenn Rolfe is a story about a small town with a huge secret. When one man makes a choice late one night, he dooms the entire town.
Let’s dive in!
My Thoughts on The Siren of Groves Peak by Glenn Rolfe –
In this small town in Maine, the fisherman have an agreement with the siren that lives in the bay. They don’t speak of it, but many understand the circumstance. When the siren finally has an offspring, one of the fishermen kill it, and the siren vows to flood the town with their blood.
And boy, there was a lot of blood.
I was so anxious reading this! It was so much fun to root for some characters to live, while others I found myself rooting to meet their end. There was such a powerful underlying current of family and love, even with all the bloodshed, drama, and lies. With so many layers, readers get to learn more about everyones darkness as the story slowly gets more and more bleak.
As always, I just love the local mentions that Glenn rolls into his tales. Just one here was the mention of Kylie Low and the Dark Downeast. I LOVE that podcast so much. If you haven’t listened yet, I highly recommend it.
I also LOVED this passage: On the radio, Metallica gave way to Ice Nine Kills. Joyce Albright had made a grave mistake indeed. I’m a big INK fan and seeing this was so much fun.
My Favorite Passages from The Siren of Groves Peak –
Maybe that’s why he worked so hard and so long even today. Maybe this place was too much of a reminder of the one thing he couldn’t catch – Mom’s ultimate fall.
Frank put the Jeep in gear and headed home. The howling wind chased him and pushed his vehicle around the road. He was doing his best to climb Running Hill Road when a huge tree branch broke free and fell in the dark and soaked road. Frank managed to swerve to the right, the branch missing him by inches. He pulled off to the narrow shoulder. When he looked in the rearview, the large branch, bathed in the red of his taillights, looked like the skeletal arm of a massive beast reaching out for him. It was a warning of things to come.
Twin red lights, like the eyes of the moth man, appeared just ahead before vanishing around the curve. Lizzy pushed the van harder.
My Final Thoughts on The Siren of Groves Peak –
I was hooked by the setting of this tale and only got drawn in deeper as the story progressed. Supernatural horror and slasher fans, you’re gonna LOVE this!
