[Wrap-Up] February 2022

March 3, 2022      Erica Robyn      2 Comments

And the slump continues… Phew. I just haven’t been feeling much like myself recently. I know a lot of others are in the same boat. If anyone needs to chat, I’m always here!

My reading is still taking quite the hit, so thank you again to everyone that is still waiting on a review from me that I haven’t gotten to yet.

Overall things have been fine on my end, just super stressful and frustrating.

I’m still dealing with the same old medical issues. This month my thyroid levels are looking good, so I’m really excited for that! I graduated from PT for my back, with the promise of keeping up my at home exercises. Next, I’m going back to chiropractic care and getting massages once a month to see if that helps. I may try acupuncture again as well because I still have daily pain and I can’t sit for more than an hour without feeling like I’m going to be sick from the pain. And the kicker? Not even 18 hours after graduating PT for my back, a doctor sent in a new referral for an inner ear issue I’m having… Goodness.

This month I also started the infertility meds, and they absolutely wiped me out. I had some pretty major side effects that I’m going to talk to my OB about. Keep your fingers crossed for me on that front! My doctors want me as stress free as possible… That’s been really hard.

This graphic sums things up pretty nicely…

To top it all off, work has been absolutely bananas. It’s like dealing with Hydra. I finish one project, and two more take its place. My boss is trying to offload some stuff, so I’m very grateful for that. Now I just need to be patient while he helps me with that.

On the brighter side, Alex and I celebrated our eight year dateiversary! Per usual, we went to the restaurant where we first met in person. We had a blast, but I was so exhausted, I almost fell asleep at dinner!

This month, the Best of Season Two launched from Dead Headspace! I had so much fun recording this!

Dead Headspace Best of Season 2

I hit a milestone with my meditation! I officially hit 100 days of meditation practice in a row! I do at least one every night before bed to get me calmed down before sleep. This definitely helps with the thought spirals and overall stress levels. I can’t imagine how much worse off I would be if it weren’t for this practice!

Alex and I also got these beauties hung up! I had my eye on the company Small Woods, and when they finally did a sale, I purchased these as our gift for Valentines Day as we usually don’t do anything for the holiday but needed a little pick up this year.

Let’s dive into my quick recap.

Monthly Musings

Reading:

  • Below by Laurel Hightower
  • Lamella by Max Halper
  • Slice of Paradise: A Beach Vacation Horror Anthology edited by Ben Long and Andrew Robert

Watching:

Shitts Creek | Comedy TV Series | Netflix
Alex and I finished watching through is and we’re both so sad it’s over! What a killer show!

Best Wishes, Warmest Regards: A Schitt’s Creek Farewell | Documentary | Netflix
If you’ve watched Shitts Creek, you need to watch this documentary!

The Book of Boba Fett | Season 1 | Disney+
AH THE LAST FEW EPISODES!!

Catching Killers | TV Series | Netflix
This show is so unsettling! I really loved the focus on hearing the stories from the investigators themselves.

The Woman Across the Street from the Woman in the Window | TV Series | Netflix
I love how much fun this show pokes at the recent thrillers that have been a topic of public discussion, and I just love Kristen Bell.

Sweet Magnolias | Season 1 & 2 | TV Series | Netflix
There’s SO much drama in this show. Based on some of the topics, I was a little worried this would be triggering for me, but it was actually more therapeutic! There’s also so much love in the show, that makes the drama all worth it!

All Of Us Are Dead | 2022 TV Series | Netflix
It took me a bit to get into this one, but then I just couldn’t stop watching! The high school drama is heavy, but the zombies and the insane transitions from human to zombie were intense!

Playing:

Pokémon Legends: Arceus | Switch
I have been obsessed with this game. My husband asked me to just try it for ten minutes, and I got hooked. Now I pick it up and play until the battery on the Switch dies on me. My mental health hasn’t been the best this month, and this was an incredible distraction. I love that I can just wander around the map here, doing little side quests and catching/battling Pokémon. I beat the main storyline, now I’m determined to try to catch all the Pokémon to finish my Pokédex!

The Luminous Dead by Caitlin Starling is a totally The Luminous Dead by Caitlin Starling is a totally captivating but nerve-wracking tale that is certainly not for those that fear tight spaces… While reading this tale, I felt so horribly claustrophobic. But I couldn’t stop. I had to find out what happened next!

I originally learned who he was after seeing him participate in the KillerCon 2020 Virtual Event. I went to follow him and his publishing house, Perpetual Motion Machine (that he runs with Lori Michelle), immediately after his reading.

Within the PMM publishing house, they also have the imprint, Ghoulish Books, which launched in January of 2022. Max’s latest book, Maggots Screaming!, launched today April 12th, 2022 from that imprint. In celebration, I’m so excited to be sharing this interview with Max!

Diaries of the Damned by Ivan Radev is a collectio Diaries of the Damned by Ivan Radev is a collection of tales that span numerous dark fears. But as always, even in the darkness, there’s a bit of light.

In the foreword, the author warns that this is a book of fears, and boy does he play on fears wonderfully! Each tale is presented to readers in the first person to really get readers in the characters shoes. Please use caution here when you dive in. The author does not shy away from the darkness.

Phew, this read will take readers on quite the journey! It was the perfect read for a dark and rainy spring weekend.
