When The Night Falls by Glenn Rolfe | Horror Book Review

When The Night Falls by Glenn Rolfe is the follow-up to the amazing Until Summer Comes Around, and this second book is even more packed with bloodshed and the terror that wreaks havoc on this poor town… yet again.

Content Warning: Abuse, Blood.

Let’s dive in!

My Thoughts on When The Night Falls by Glenn Rolfe –

When I FINALLY picked up my copy of Until Summer Comes Around, I read it faster than anything else in the last three years, and it felt AMAZING. So of course, the moment I closed the book, I went on over to gibsonsbookstore.com and ordered myself a copy of the second book, announcing to my husband that the minute this book arrives, I will need some reading time.

In this book, we pick right back up with our main character, Rocky, as he struggles with the ghosts of his past that just won’t let him go. To his horror, a documentary about the “Beach Night Killer,” as the media had dubbed Gabriel, is about to be released. And of course, this draws all kinds of people to Old Orchard Beach… Some just want to revel in the darkness of it all, but little does this town know, there are more monsters lurking around in the darkness, and they’re about to make themselves at home.

I fell right back into this storyline. I was so nervous to see where things would go, just knowing things would get bloody quickly. And my gosh, bloody they did indeed get! Some absolutely brutal kills in this book took things up several notches from the last book, and those kills were already right up there!

I LOVED seeing where Rocky and November were in their lives, and what they were each struggling with. I so badly wanted them to come together and have a nice time. But of course, that’s not in the cards for them.

And the last line!!! Oh my gosh…

I LOVED this book.

My Favorite Passages from When The Night Falls –

His heartbeat pulsed in his neck.

The thought of how that pulse in that particular spot on the human body could be a beacon…to the wrong sort of element… drifted through his head.

The meanness in his gaze arrived like a tornado over a town that has been wrecked again and again yet is incapable of stopping the storm about to touch down.

His voice sounded too loud in the quiet. There were no sounds at all. No creaks, no air conditioner running, no fans. He clicked on his flashlight and let the beam scour the areas he’d already searched this morning – the fruit fly battlefield at the kitchen sink, the abandoned dishes on the coffee table in the living room, and a pair of loafers by the door. The portrait of a life interrupted. It was eerie.

My Final Thoughts on When The Night Falls –

Such an awesome extension of these poor characters’ lives. I was on the edge of my seat the entire time. And though I just knew better, I couldn’t help but get attached to the various smaller characters that popped into the story.

For horror fans like me who just can’t get enough vampire tales, this is going to be such a hit for you! Buy both books if you haven’t yet read the first. You’re going to want to read them back-to-back!
