If you’re a fan of true crime, you gotta check out the podcast, Jensen & Holes: The Murder Squad hosted by Billy Jensen and Paul Holes if you haven’t already!
On the podcast, the two announced an event that would be held at Barnes & Noble locations across the US. The goal? To follow clues released on the B&N Instagram to try to solve the case.
On October 17th, fans would visit their local B&N to discuss the case and learn who the culprit was.
Let’s dive in!
The Crack The Case Event
The case itself was discussed on a special episode. To listen to it, click here!
As B&N released new clues, I was not anywhere near being able to guess at who the culprit was…
My friend Amber and I attended the event at the B&N in Nashua, New Hampshire. When we got there, there were only two others there for the event. But hey, it’s better than just us showing up! 🙂
On the table, there were copies of Billy Jensen’s book, Chase Darkness With Me, which I HIGHLY recommend if you are a true crime fan. There were also little spy glass bookmarks, and a one-sheeter with games on it:
Soon, we got a final clue from the B&N team member, who then left us to discuss further. We all agreed that we didn’t think it was the boyfriend (ex boyfriend? Yikes, I already can’t remember… It’s been quite the week.), but we weren’t totally sure about the other two options.
When the B&N team member came back, she read us the answer. One of the attendees had been right! The B&N team member then read to us about the real names of the people involved and how the police solved the case.
After that, the four of us sat around talking about the event, then about other true crime podcasts and books that we recommend. One woman walked away with quite the list of things to check out!
Of course, before heading out, I had to check out this display:
All in all, I was glad we attended! I wish we had gotten a photo of us before we all left. It was fun chatting about other podcasts and books with the two ladies that we didn’t know. Though I do wish that the event had a little bit more to it. It was a bit of a let down considering how excited I was.
Did you attend one of these events?
If so, how was it? I’d love to hear your thoughts!

I don’t think my local B&N did this, or I missed the email. It sounds like a lot of fun. I don’t read true crime often, but I love a good murder mystery, so this would have been right up my alley. Glad you had fun.

Aww darn!

I wonder if my B&N is hosting something. Probably not. But CHase Darkness was a fun read. I enjoyed getting his perspective on Michelle McNamara and him finishing off her book.

This is so cool! We really don’t have big bookshops in the Netherlands that organize things like this. Only thing I attended was a Karin Slaughter sign-session and an interview with her…

I don’t recall our local B&N doing anything like this. I’ll have to start paying more attention to their calendar of events.

It seemed to be a bit of an odd one. Many shops advertised in store but not online or in their newsletters… I wonder why 🙁
Carole @ Carole's Random Life in Books says
I am surprised that the turnout was so low. That’s a bit of a bummer but it sounds like you had a nice time talking to the other participants.
Erica Robyn says
Yeah, I think there was an issue with promotion on the local level…
ShootingStarsMag says
It’s a fun idea, but that’s a bummer it wasn’t advertised more. I’m glad you weren’t the only one there though!
Erica Robyn says
Yeah. Hopefully if they do it again, it will have a better turnout!

Hey there! I’m catching up on murder squad episodes and just finished this episode. I tracked down the clues from B&Ns twitter but can’t seem to find the answer or the name of the real victim to research and its driving me crazy! Any chance you remember who dun it or the real names so I can get some closure?
Erica Robyn says
Oh no!! I can’t remember! 🙁 I really wish that I did!
