[Book Blogger Hop] Authors I Have Met

February 9, 2018      Erica Robyn      30 Comments

Book Blogger Hop

Book Blogger Hop is a weekly meme hosted by Ramblings of a Coffee Addicted Writer, where you answer a question and join a “hop”. The purpose is to help bloggers discover and get to know one another.

For this week’s question, Elizabeth @ Silver’s Reviews asks:
What authors have you met and where?

My answer:
I’ve actually had a draft of a blog about this topic sitting around for a while now. So I’m so glad I’m finally using it!

I have been very lucky and have met a few authors, though I am sure I’m missing quite a few from this list. I know for sure I met an author of a children’s book about sea glass… but I can’t think of her name for the life of me.

But anyway, let’s dive in!

Authors I Have Met

Andrew Motion
I had the amazing opportunity to meet Andrew Motion, the Poet Laureate of the United Kingdom at the time, during CamTrad 2008 in Cambridge, England. He read us some of his work and then talked about writing poetry. He also wrote a lovely memoir that I would highly recommend called In The Blood.

Don Winslow
I also had the opportunity to meet Don at a book discussion during CamTrad. After the discussion and a quick Q&A, my friend Caitlin and I were able to get our books signed. Check out Don’s Goodreads page here.

Emily Chetkowski
Emily summered in my hometown so I had met her on a number of occasions. She wrote a lovely children’s book about a pup that took the ferry between the island and the mainland called Mabel Takes the Ferry.

Jeffrey H. Ryan
Jeff and I worked together at a marketing business out of Portland, Maine. Jeff has written two books (so far!). I read and really enjoyed Appalachian Odyssey: A 28-year hike on the Appalachian Trail. I’m hoping to re-read it soon to put a post here on my blog.

Jen Blood
I went to a book event that our friend Paige was signing at and got to meet Jen. Her Erin Solomon Mystery series is so awesome! I highly recommend checking them out if you’re a mystery fan!

Joe Hill
I was so starstruck when I met Joe Hill in Concord, NH on his book tour for Strange Weather. Click here to check out [Book Event] Meeting Joe Hill.

Lou Jane Temple
Lou Jane is a family friend that I also worked with at a private residence. I don’t know how this is possible, but I’ve only been able to get my hands on one of her books, Death by Rhubarb. I need to step up my search!! Check out Lou Jane Temple’s Goodreads listing.

Paige W. Pendleton
Paige is a family friend that has written two books in The Black Ledge Series (YA Fantasy) as well as two children’s books. If you enjoy YA Fantasy, you have to check out her series! It’s so much fun!!

Portia De Rossi
I met Portia at a book signing for Unbearable Lightness- A Story of Loss and Gain at Barnes and Noble in NYC. I spent a year in the city studying art and photography. When I saw that she was doing a signing right down the street, I couldn’t wait. She was so lovely. Her book is also really powerful.

T.M. Murphy
Our school had a visit from T.M. Murphy one year, though I can’t remember exactly when that was. It must have been when I was in middle school… The details are a bit hazy, but I was able to get a few of his books signed! I was SO hooked on the Belltown Mysteries Series! I need to reread those again soon as well!

Tess Gerritsen
Tess was very kind and came to the local library in my hometown, though I can’t remember if it was for a book tour. I remember being the only teenager there. I sat in a really uncomfortable chair clutching my beat up copy of Harvest. Which is another I need to re-read soon! That was one of my favorite high school reads!

Thanks for reading!

Wow. What fun! I haven't really met any writers unless you could our local "ghost" historian who wrote a book but also did our local Haunted Halloween Tour one year. However, I'm amazed at the amount of authors who have been guests on my blog and connected with me on twitter. A lot of them are such kind people!

Hi, you have certainly met a lot of authors. I have too, although I wrote about only two of them, Nora Roberts and YA author Jay Asher.

So much excitement for you Erica ๐Ÿ™‚ I remember your post about you meeting with Joe Hill. I've only meet one author, M.J. Brett. She is local to Colorado Springs, hopefully I'll get my picture and post up this evening.

I loved it! I may totally be biased, because Jeff rules, but it's such an interesting and humorous story!

So cool that you met Portia de Rossi aka Ellen's wifey lol. I haven't met any authors in person, but I do communicate a lot with Tonya Kuper, Ryan Ringbloom, Sheena Hutchinson, Ingrid Seymour and Inger Iversen on social media. I love how I'm not as afraid or scared or nervous to talk to those group of wonderful ladies as much as I was back in 2014-15. I never know if some authors can't be bothered to interact with their fans (be it heavy schedules or just don't want to). I used to think it was just at book signings or social media you could have a chance to talk to them, just to tell them how much you love their work. But I've found that it's better just to say "hi" or ask how their day was. They like that kind of easy communication rather than just discussing the latest book they have out.

I've met a few authors at local library events. A few of them were Kirsten White, Jennifer A. Nielsen, Aprilynne Pike, and Courtney Alameda. It's super awesome meeting authors especially when you love their work. Thanks for sharing your experiences.

I haven't met any of these authors! I've gone to a lot of book events like, BEA, ALA, Texas Book Festival, etc. and it's always so fun to meet the creators of the stories you read! I think Portia would be my favorite on your list!

As a matter of fact, our latest Childrenโ€™s Laureate has just been announced – Morris Gleitzman, whom I have met and chatted with before, at an evening at Penguin Books. Such a nice man! And a wonderful writer, as our students will agree. He writes quite a variety of books, from the funny to the sad, sometimes both. His most popular series at the moment is about a Jewish boy called Felix, on the run from the Nazis, then with the Resistance, eventually arriving in Australia and becom8ng a doctor. The kids at my school love them.
