My 10 Favorite Books That Were Published in 2017

I cannot believe we are at this time of year already! It seems like this year has just FLOWN right by!

But here we are… It’s time to rank my favorite reads of the year!

Please note:
These are not in a favorite ranking order! I did attempt to rank them by which I loved the most, but quickly realized that it would be impossible. They are all such incredible reads in their own ways! So instead, they are ranked by publish date; from the latest to the earliest of the year.

Let’s dive in!

My 10 Favorite Books That Were Published in 2017

Artemis by Andy Weir

Artemis by Andy Weir

Publication Date: November 14th, 2017

Artemis was absolutely everything I was hoping it would be; it was humorous, action-packed, and a super fun read!

Oh my gosh, Jazz Bashara was a hoot! I can see why her character may be a little much for some readers tastes, but I loved her! She was so sarcastic and had absolutely no filter. I really enjoyed all the situations that she got herself into, whether they were good or bad. I especially enjoyed her banter with Martin Svoboda, who was my favorite character in the book.

The Tea Dragon Society by Katie O’Neill

The Tea Dragon Society by Katie O'Neill

Publication Date: October 18th, 2017

The Tea Dragon Society by Katie O’Neill was a book that I just knew I was going to adore. After all… it is about two of my favorite things, tea and dragons!

Sure enough,ย I loved everything about it; the artwork style, the color palette, the storyline, the characters and their relationships, the pacing… I also really enjoyed the information at the back of the book, where we are taught more about each of the tea dragons and the history of the society. I thought this was such a nice touch!

A Killer Harvest by Paul Cleave

Publication Date: August 1st, 2017

A Killer Harvest by Paul Cleave is an incredible crime thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat.

Once I picked this one up, I really struggled to put it down; I just couldn’t wait to see what happened next! There were so many twists and turns that I absolutely did not see coming, along with many A-HA moments sprinkled in. Needless to say, I thought the suspense was incredible!

The Limpet Syndrome by Tony Moyle

Publication Date: June 27th, 2017

When I first read the book synopsis, I thought it would be a bit out of my wheelhouse. But I was very happily proved wrong! I mean, just from this passage, I should have known that this author’s humor was going to be a hit with me:

“If you love books about reincarnation, corruption, the human condition, OCD and talking pigeons then this is the book for you. OK, you’ve never read a book like that before… here’s your chance!”

Here and Gone by Haylen Beck

Publication Date: June 20th, 2017

Here and Gone is a suspense novel that is sure to get your heart pounding! I thought that the premise was incredibly spooky because itโ€™s so realistic. And phew, this book doesn’t hold back at all! The main action starts in just the first ten pages and doesn’t let up until the very end. Between all of the action and the wonderful writing style, I couldn’t put this book down!

Eliza and Her Monsters by Francesca Zappia

Publication Date: May 30th, 2017

It has been a very, very long time since a book has had this much of an impact on me. Most of it was such a light and fun read! But there was also a very serious and raw emotional edge that made me totally fall in love with this book.

Seriously, this is quite the read! I laughed, I got nervous, I scowled, I held my breath, I cried, but most importantly, I cheered! I loved absolutely everything about this book, and I highly recommend picking it up and giving it a read.

Dragon Teeth by Michael Crichton

Publication Date: May 22nd, 2017

I absolutely loved that Mr. Crichton spliced together strands of fiction and history for this book! I loved learning about the real characters and events in the typical Crichton fashion.

The storyline organization and pacing was absolutely thrilling. I was hooked right from page one and did not want the book to end. There were many situations that got my heart pumping, times that made me sad, and times where I found myself cheering the characters on.

From Ant to Eagle by Alex Lyttle

Publication Date: April 1st, 2017

From Ant to Eagle by Alex Lyttle is heartbreaking but incredible story about family and the special bond of two brothers.

Make sure to grab your tissues before you jump in here. And be warned, this is another that you won’t be able to put it down once you start reading.

Voltron: Legendary Defender, Volume 1 by Tim Hedrick, Mitch Iverson

Publication Date: February 7th, 2017

This was such a joy to read! I absolutely loved everything about it! I really enjoyed the artwork and the characters. I thought the storyline was simple, but also fast paced and action packed!

A List of Cages by Robin Roe

Publication Date: January 10th, 2017

I very rarely find a book that truly hits me on an emotional level. This was one of those books. Ten Millions Stars! This book was absolutely incredible. A must read for all!

“Hate ricochets, but kindness does too.”

I've not read any of these but I own the Paul Cleave novel and now you have me excited to jump into it. Glad you had so many good reads and I know what you meant about putting them in any kind of order. There's no way I could do that either!

It's very different. I know a lot of people really disliked it because of the main character, but I loved her! I hope you enjoy it ๐Ÿ™‚

I am so bad at reading books in their publication year. It always takes me a while to catch up. I'll have to check out A List of Cages on your recommendation, plus I really like the cover!

I so need to read Artemis, it sounds so good. Same with Eliza and her Monsters, wouldn't be on my radar normally but all the good reviews have kinda convinced me. Here and Gone has me curious too!

I haven't read any of these. Yet. ELIZA AND HER MONSTERS is definitely one I need to get to soon. A KILLER HARVEST and HERE AND GONE both sound good. I love a good thriller, especially when I don't see the big twists coming!

Where do you find all these lovely books? Amazing! Artemis sure is doing the rounds, will try to get to it in the new year. But you've listed books on here that I much rather want to read! A killer harvest and Here and gone is my type of read. The Limpet Syndrome is tickling my fancy and A list of cages is one of those magnet books. The cover, the title, you raving about it… Will have to get my hands on it!

Thanks for stopping by my blog earlier!

The only one on your list that I've read is Here and Gone, and I listened to that as an audiobook while on a road trip with my kids! It really freaked me out!! But it made me keep an eye on my speedometer.

I have Weir's The Martian sitting on my bookshelf, and I really want to read that one this year. I'm adding A Killer Harvest to my TBR!
