Visiting Casablanca Comics in Portland Maine

December 23, 2019      Erica Robyn      6 Comments

This fall, while celebrating the soon-to-be Mr & Mrs Graeff, we stopped in at Casablanca Comics in Portland Maine.

I must have walked by this shop a hundred times while I lived in Portland, but on this trip, I was finally able to stop in!

Let’s dive in!

To enter the shop, you walk down a staircase that leads to an area with three places; Casablanca Comics, a restaurant, and a Bull Moose shop.

As you approach the doorway, you can see that the space itself is brightly lit. When I stepped through the door, my first thought was that it was wonderfully organized!

The space is on the basement level of the building, so there is brickwork and piping throughout. It’s packed with comics and comic related items like cardboard cut outs, figurines, magnets, pins, and other things.

I loved that the bookcases were organized by publishing company and that many were set facing out so you could see all of the wonderful artwork:

I also loved the section for the newest releases! If I still lived in the area, this is definitely the section I would return to first when stopping back in.

Of course, when I saw a few specific sections, I zeroed right in! One of those sections was the “Spooky Reading!”

Of course I just couldn’t resist snagging a graphic novel while I was there.

This is such a wonderful shop! If you’re in the Portland area, I highly recommend stopping in!

Thanks for reading!

Ooh I’d love to visit here! I like that a lot of the comics/graphic novels are facing out, like you said. Covers say a lot!

100% jealous that you used to live in Portland. My husband and I visited Portland a few years ago, and we absolutely fell in love with the city; we can’t wait to visit again! I didn’t get to make it into Casablanca Comics while we were there. We were wandering around Bull Moose, waiting for the comic shop to open, but then we ended up going for a coffee run and never made it back. We did go to Coast City Comics while we were there though, and we loved it. Especially all of the pinball machines in the back of the store!
