The End by Kayleigh Dobbs | Horror Book Review

December 16, 2025      Erica Robyn      Leave a Comment

The End by Kayleigh Dobbs is an amazing collection of tales centering around people meeting their ends in such wild and brutal ways.

Let’s dive in!

My Thoughts on The End by Kayleigh Dobbs –

I HATE that it took me this long to dive in here! When I heard Kayleigh was releasing a book, I preordered it right away. Now I’ve FINALLY been able to pick it up! Hollllllly. This is such an intense collection!

Here are my notes on each tale:

The Claim They Stake –

Rushing back home after checking on a neighbor, this man tries to tell his fiancée what he’s seen. Unfortunately for him, she chalks it up to him being off his meds. But what’s on his phone could change everything.

This poor guy! My gosh, I don’t know what to believe!

Just Like Baking –

On summoning night, this group of four is interrupted and forced to let a younger sibling take part. And unfortunately for them, this little sister is a bit of a mess.

Oh my gosh, the foreshadowing with the muffins. I was so nervous to see what was going to happen!

Catch Fire –

Giving her sister one very last try at making amends for a lifetime of drama, this couple walks into the evening, one already this limit, and the other sister thinking she’ll allow three strikes. They learn very quickly that they never should have given this last chance.

My GOD. All the little glimpses into the darkness that was going on were so lightly peppered into the sibling drama, I didn’t see that ending coming at all!

Dead –

Determined to renovate their basement because of the horribly ugly tile, this woman quickly learns that she should have left the tile alone when a zombie crawls out from the dirt.

This was SO much fun! Seeing how this woman reacted to every step of the way was hilariously down-to-earth. I mean, one of the first thoughts this ghost had once she realized she was dead was about not returning her library book, which gave me a good chuckle.

Omega –

Putting all her faith into her pastor, when the day of reckoning comes, she battles her inner sense that something is off…

This was TERRIFYING! My chest got so tight!!

The End –

What a horrific last entry here that gave me SO much anxiety!

Off to read something lighter! Phew!

My Favorite Passages from The End –

Suspecting changed nothing, but knowing ruined everything.
— The Claim They Stake

Wind whistled and whipped at fence posts. It pulled lovingly planted flowers from their beds in the gardens of Willow Street, yanking every bit of cheerful colour away, and tossing the severed petals into the storm.
— Just Like Baking

My Final Thoughts on The End –

Horror fans!!!!! You have to check this out if you haven’t already! My gosh. It’s not often that I finish a book and feel the need to go find something lighter to dive into! But here we are!
