[Book Blogger Hop] Using Names On Blogs

July 28, 2018      Erica Robyn      20 Comments

Book Blogger Hop

Book Blogger Hop is a weekly meme hosted by Ramblings of a Coffee Addicted Writer, where you answer a question and join a “hop”. The purpose is to help bloggers discover and get to know one another.

For this week’s question, Elizabeth @ Silver’s Reviews asked:
Do you agree or disagree with this statement: A blogger’s first name should be in a prominent place on his/her blog.

My answer:

I definitely appreciate when a blogger’s first name is easy to spot on their blog. If not on the home page, then at least on the About page.

However, I think it’s really just a preference thing for each blogger. If someone doesn’t want their name shown, that’s up to them. I know a few bloggers that don’t use their name for privacy reasons.

Thanks for reading!

    Great answer.

If I can't find their first name, I just revert to calling them by their blog's name. πŸ™‚

Thanks for sharing your thoughts, Erica.

Some bloggers use a pseudonym, which gives a personal touch but preserves privacy. I'm fine with that too!

I completely agree E! πŸ˜€ Awesome answer! I kind of miss the pseudonym/nickname days of the internet. Like I am happy that the internet has become a safer place in the eyes of society but I loved our super cringey AIM usernames and stuff like that hahaha. <3

I never even thought about this. I must not care. I usually just notice the name of the blog.

I agree it's a personal choice, but I feel like I connect more with the blogger when I at least know their first name!

There are definitely bloggers out there who prefer not to share their names at all, not even their first names, and that should be respected. It does make it nicer when a blog visitor/reader can connect with a name, but people have a right to their privacy. Alternatively, a nickname would be a good idea. I know a blogger who uses the nickname "J9". Works for me!

If a blogger uses neither a real name nor a nickname, and they leave a comment on one of my posts, then it's "Hi, there!" for them when I reply to their comment. Lol.

Thanks for sharing! Thanks as well for commenting on my BBH post!! <3 πŸ™‚

Great answer Erica! I believe in bloggers having a choice but I prefer to be able to type a name, feel more personal and I suppose more of a connection.

    Thanks for visiting.

I can totally understand not wanting your full name out there, but I kind of like being able to call a blogger by name, even if it's just a pseudonym.
