[Audiobook Review] Bird Box by Josh Malerman, performed by Cassandra Campbell

March 15, 2018      Erica Robyn      21 Comments

I recently snagged a copy of Bird Box by Josh Malerman, performed by Cassandra Campbell. While I already owned Bird Box in hardcover and ebook form, I just couldn’t help myself!

I’m so happy to say that the audiobook didn’t disappoint! If anything, it made the story even more terrifying!

Let’s dive in.

My Thoughts on Bird Box by Josh Malerman, performed by Cassandra Campbell

First of all, I have to say how much I LOVE this story. The first time I read it, I couldn’t put it down. I just had to know what happened next! The way the chapters are organized keeps you totally captivated.

Cassandra Campbell did a wonderful job with the audio! She had just the right amount of emotion in her voice for certain scenes without going overboard. I will definitely be keeping an eye out for more audiobooks performed by Cassandra!

Even though I knew what was going to happen, listening to the audiobook still kept me totally immersed in the story. I already cannot wait to give it another listen.

Thanks for reading!
Have you ever listened to suspense novels on audio?

I really want to give audios another shot and see if I can keep my focus. I'm glad this was a winner for you though, and that it kept you interested since you already knew what was going to happen. I do love this book! I'm so curious about the film.

I really need to read this before the movie gets released. I think Sandra Bullock is in it but I'm not sure. Lot of bloggers I trust seem to love this one!

So glad you enjoyed this, Erica! I don't listen to audiobooks because my short attention span won't let me get through 10 minutes without falling asleep, but I LOVE listening to narrators in general, hearing distinct emotions from them. <3

Haha! I hear ya. They're a struggle for me too. I've found that I do better with them when I've already read the book 🙂

I *love* rereading books on audio! It’s a great way to enjoy the story again, but in a different way. Sometimes I even pick up more because of the narrator’s performance. It’s great that this audio was such a good interpretation of the book, especially when you know you’ll want to listen again and again.

Same!! I picked up a couple simply because of the narrator. I can't wait to listen to more 🙂

I cannot read scary books, so I think an audiobook would be worse. Someone's voice whispering in your ear and BAMING you without warning. I listened to There's Someone Inside Your House (I believe I got the title right) and it was eerie listening to it instead of reading.

I'm so happy you enjoyed it! I MIGHT check it out…

Oh, definitely. For this one, there were really only a few scenes that were truly scary. The rest is just unsettling. I'd love to hear what you think if you decide to give it a go! 🙂

I have the ebook but haven't gotten to it yet. Glad to hear you loved the audio so much! I guess that's a sign of a good audiobook—even though you already knew the story, this one still had you just as gripped!

Diaries of the Damned by Ivan Radev is a collectio Diaries of the Damned by Ivan Radev is a collection of tales that span numerous dark fears. But as always, even in the darkness, there’s a bit of light.

In the foreword, the author warns that this is a book of fears, and boy does he play on fears wonderfully! Each tale is presented to readers in the first person to really get readers in the characters shoes. Please use caution here when you dive in. The author does not shy away from the darkness.

Phew, this read will take readers on quite the journey! It was the perfect read for a dark and rainy spring weekend.
