[Book Tag] Behind the Screen: A Book Blogger Tag

February 5, 2018      Erica Robyn      40 Comments

This book tag was created by Amber @ Du Livre. The purpose is to learn something new about your fellow bloggers and share likes and dislikes. When I first read that, I immediately thought: Sign me up! I love learning more about the bloggers that I follow.
So if you’d like to learn more about me… let’s go ahead and dive in!

Behind the Screen: A Book Blogger Tag

When did you start blogging and what was your first review?
I started this book blog in December of 2016. My first review was: [Graphic Novel Review] Lumberjanes Vol. 3: A Terrible Plan.
Who/what inspired you to start blogging?
I had been using Books Amino, a phone app, where I was posting reviews. Because of the engagement on my posts, I decided that it was time to step it up a bit and move to put my posts in front of a broader audience.
What is a blog-related goal that you have?
I would love to be featured in some book blurbs.
What is one thing you wish someone told you about blogging?
I wish someone would have told me to create a review policy as soon as I got my blog up and running. I ran into quite a few difficult situations before I had my policy up and running.
What was your biggest blog-related accomplishment?
I feel incredibly accomplished when authors provide me with testimonials after we have completed an honest review exchange. It’s always so nice to record kind testimonials that you can go back to and look at when feeling down.
What types of posts do you enjoy writing?
I really enjoy writing feature posts, whether that is featuring a local bookstore, or hosting an author interview.
Where do you usually blog? What does your setup look like?
For the majority of my blogging time, I split my time between my standing desk and our kitchen table. Occasionally I will blog wile sitting up in bed.
What was your last 5-star read?
Collected Halloween Horror Shorts: Trick ‘r Treat by Kevin J. Kennedy. It is such an amazing collections!
What was your last 1-star read?
Bonfire by Krysten Ritter. This was just such a miss for me.
What are three words that make you pick up a book?
Unputdownable. Addicting. Thrilling.
What is your Hogwarts House?
Hufflepuff! #PuffPride πŸ˜‰
What is your favorite reading environment?
I love reading in bed late at night, with a hot cup of tea sitting on my bedside table.
What advice would you give to new bloggers?
Don’t forget to set up your following widget and place it high on your page for easy access! I lost track of many blogs when I first started blogging simply because I couldn’t find an easy way to follow them.

Thanks for reading!
This was such a fun tag! I definitely recommend taking part if you’d like to. If you do, make sure to post your link in the comments below so I can check out your post!

I totally agree with having your "follow" buttons easy to find! It's frustrating when I really want to follow a blog and can't find an easy way to do it!

What a fun tag, it's wonder to find out a little more about the blogger behind the blogs I visit. Intresting you mentioned a review policy, I'll have to find out more about this.

For some reason I thought you'd been blogging longer! I like how polished and easy on the eyes your blog is. Fun tag! And I think feature posts are the best, whether to write but especially to read.

<3 YES! I LOVE my standing desk! This one is so cool, how easily adjustable it is. Though to be totally honest, I do prefer the standing desks that are actually pieces of furniture, and not just something that sits on the desk, but I'm making it work πŸ™‚ It's so nice to be able to sit or stand depending on how I'm feeling. I'd kill for a standing desk with a treadmill below it!

I'm not accepting book review requests right now, but when I did, it felt really good to help authors out by reviewing their books for them. I think being featured as a book blurb would be amazing. I'd also setting for being thanked in the acknowledgements, haha. Great answers!

Yeah, I'm not adding any more to my current list. I booked through 2018 SO fast! I want to be able to do more, but with recent life changes, my reading had really taken a hit. Oh! Great point! I'd love to be in the acknowledgements section as well! πŸ™‚

Late at night in bed is my favorite place to read too! I like how dark and quiet it is. And yes, making sure to have follow buttons is great advice, and I almost never see that mentioned. But it's really frustrating to me when I go to a new blog and want to follow but can't find any links!

I totally agree with having follow widgets up high on the sidebar. And personally, I prefer when a blog has a lot of ways to follow (ex. both email and Bloglovin', or even WordPress, Feedly, etc.) since people have different preferences when it comes to that kind of thing!

    Thanks for sharing, Erica! <3

I agree with the followers widget being hard to find! There was that one period of time Google decided to be super rude and broke GFC when I brought my domain – I think I lost a lot of followers from not being able to have it up. They fixed it eventually, though. πŸ˜€

Also is Books Amino the app I'm thinking you're talking about? Amino? I just got started in that one, though I'm rarely active on Amino aside from sharing funny screenshots.

This does look like fun, though, so I might participate.

Having your modes of following right at the top is really important. Unfortunately I think I lost a lot when I moved from Blogger to WordPress and it is kind of hard to keep track of all the ways that people follow. Bloglovin isn't bad because they tell me when someone follows, but Feedly and other RSS readers don't. This is a great tag. Am planning on doing this one soon!

I can't emphasis too much on the follow button widget. I can't believe the number of times I have had to search for ways and means to follow the blog and be disappointed.

This is a great tag with awesome questions to answer to and it is double the fun to read answers by our favorite bloggers. I might do this tag one of these days.

Yaay I'm soo happy you did this tag! I also thought you had been blogging longer than a year and half (and I STILL need to read Lumberjanes)!

I'm on the fence about review policies. I had one on my blog but I took it down because no one was looking at it and following it. This was especially true when authors started finding my contact information on Amazon.

That's too bad about Bonfire; I can't say I'm surprised but it sounded interesting

And yes a million times yes to follow widgets! I also would love if some bloggers had more options to follow than just email subscription.

Ugh, yeah… I've had some issues with people not following my policy as well…

Review policies and follow widgets are very essential! I also like that you chose to step it up yourself. It's interesting that you use a standing desk – I could never get behind that but I know it benefits a lot of people!
