Watcher by Somer Canon is a heart-pounding and fast-paced short story that will have you on the edge of your seat!
Let’s dive in!
My Thoughts on Watcher by Somer Canon –
When a teenager finds herself a target of three men with nasty plans, she fights back and runs. Seeking shelter and safety in an abandoned house, she has no idea she’s wandered to The Munster House. Luckily, when her attackers find her, she’s not as alone as she fears.
I’ll keep my notes light here as I don’t want to give anything away! So I’ll just say two things:
- There is such a great setup where as the author gives us some history of the house! I was hooked by this tale from the very start!
- The supernatural element is so wonderfully spooky as it’s paired with the terror of what the men are trying to do.
My Favorite Passages from Watcher –
Urban areas that die slow deaths are some of the most depressing phenomena in modern human history. It’s not just memories of better days that go, it’s the people that get flushed with the rubble as well. Urban decay rots the human spirit every bit as much as the once grand testament to human creativity and ingenuity. Buildings rot and fall, human memory fades, and even lore gets lost, floating away in the fetid wind.
She was headed to the small, local discount grocery store three blocks away from her home because they sold cheap, overly cheesed pizza by the slice, and Jennifer was consumed by a mighty need for a greasy triangle of dairy deviance.
Innocence does an Irish exit far too early, pain is masked by directionless anger, and humanity of others isn’t recognized.
My Final Thoughts on Watcher –
What a killer short story! This tale is exactly what I needed to finally end my book hangover from my last read!
