Top 5 Wednesday: Summer Reads
5. Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty
I was drawn into the story very early on. The drama and suspense was so addicting! Stephen King perfectly summed up this book when he said that it’s, “A hell of a book. Funny and scary.” Click here to read my full review.
4. One for the Money by Janet Evanovich
This book is so much fun! If you’re looking for a great book to read at the beach or by the pool, I would highly recommend this! It’s such a funny crime novel with lovely characters.
3. I’ll Give You the Sun by Jandy Nelson
The last line of the book’s description nails it: “…will leave you breathless and teary and laughing—often all at once.” Both heartbreaking and lovely, this book is a must-read! I do have to say that the writing style took me a minute to get used to (ex. Noah’s overactive artist imagination) but once I figured out what was going on, I absolutely loved it.
2. The Dry by Jane Harper
I was hooked right into this story from the very start and had a very hard time putting it down. The writing is great; all of the description helps you to really see the landscape and feel the dry heat of the atmosphere. The pacing was constant and even the bits that could be described as “slow” were still so captivating to me. Click here to read my full review.
1. Relief Map by Rosalie Knecht
I absolutely loved this book. It was a very quick read; so if you’re looking for a book to finish in a day or so, this is a great one. The writing was beautiful. The storyline was quick and followed a very simple path. The characters were interesting, especially from the small town standpoint. I really enjoyed the anxiety that this book provoked because while it was a bit creepy (the government suddenly isolating the town and not giving the people inside much information or any answers to their questions, not letting an asthmatic out to refill her inhaler prescription, etc.), it wasn’t over the top.
Thanks for reading!
