[Top 10 Tuesday] Book Recommendations From My Mom

May 16, 2017      Erica Robyn      22 Comments

Top 10 Tuesday Book Recommendations From My Mom

Top 10 Tuesday is created and hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.

This weeks prompt is:
Mother’s Day related Freebie: favorite moms in literature, books about motherhood, best mother/daughter or son relationships, books to buy your mom, worst moms in literature, etc.
My mom has always been really great about my reading.

I grew up on an island with a tiny library. So to help support my reading, my mom would always bring me to bookstores every time we made a trip to the mainland. When we had book sales at school, she always let me go a little nuts. And like I’ve said in previous posts, like My Reading Story, I used to have so many books that we created a small library!

When I had really bad insomnia for years, my mom bought me a great reading chair and always made sure we had the perfect reading snacks in the cabinets. On more than a handful of occasions, I remember my mom making a special trip to the mainland to grab me the next book in a particular series I had been reading.

Of course, my mom has always given me many reading recommendations over the years. So for this week’s Top 10 Tuesday, I have decided to list ten of my favorite books that my mom has recommended to me.
Enjoy!

Book Recommendations From My Mom

10. The Cuckoo’s Calling by Robert Galbraith

9. The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larsson, Translated by Reg Keeland

8. Miss Peregrineโ€™s Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs

7. Slow Boat to Purgatory by Vernon Baker

6. All the Blue-Eyed Angels by Jen Blood

5. The Keeper and the Rune Stone by Paige W. Pendleton

3. Doctor Sleep by Stephen King

2. The Rosie Project by Graeme Simsion

1. One For The Money by Janet Evanovich

Happy belated Mothers Day to all of you moms! ๐Ÿ™‚ And a special shout out to my mom, Apryl. Thanks for always supporting my love of reading!

Looks like some great recommendations! I want to read Miss Peregrine's and I've been wondering about the dragon Tattoo books too… and that's awesome that she supported your reading! My mom always got me gift cards for bookstores for my birthdays, so I usually consider her an enabler of my reading as well! ๐Ÿ™‚

Your mom sounds amazing and I think it's wonderful that you've been able to bond over books. Miss Peregrine's is such an unusual book, but I enjoyed it very much as well.

I LOVED 9/10 of them! Cuckoo's Calling was okay, but I think I need to reread it sometime. I didn't totally love it the first time around. Though I still think about the characters from time to time.

Although my mom is the one who instilled my love of reading, she herself was not much of a reader. I could probably name the books my mom has read and they would not even reach a dozen; not counting ones that she read me or my brother. Funny though, well not really, but my brother HATES reading!!! So your lucky your mom likes to read and has some good taste in books. Loved Miss Perregrine's Home for Peculiar Children. Also read Hollow City and need to read Library of Souls sometime this year.

I originally learned who he was after seeing him participate in the KillerCon 2020 Virtual Event. I went to follow him and his publishing house, Perpetual Motion Machine (that he runs with Lori Michelle), immediately after his reading.

Within the PMM publishing house, they also have the imprint, Ghoulish Books, which launched in January of 2022. Maxโ€™s latest book, Maggots Screaming!, launched today April 12th, 2022 from that imprint. In celebration, Iโ€™m so excited to be sharing this interview with Max!

Diaries of the Damned by Ivan Radev is a collectio Diaries of the Damned by Ivan Radev is a collection of tales that span numerous dark fears. But as always, even in the darkness, thereโ€™s a bit of light.

In the foreword, the author warns that this is a book of fears, and boy does he play on fears wonderfully! Each tale is presented to readers in the first person to really get readers in the characters shoes. Please use caution here when you dive in. The author does not shy away from the darkness.

Phew, this read will take readers on quite the journey! It was the perfect read for a dark and rainy spring weekend.
