My First Owlcrate Unboxing: The Vicious and Vengeful Box

September 24, 2018      Erica Robyn      20 Comments

The Vicious and Vengeful Owlcrate box
I signed up for the Owlcrate newsletter ages ago to check out their limited edition boxes as well as the monthly themes, just waiting to see one that piqued my interest. Sure enough, I got an email announcing a special edition box in collaboration with the one and only, V.E. Schwab. I clicked the link immediately and ordered one. Just three hours later, I was scrolling through instagram and saw Owlcrate post that the box had already sold out! I’m so very grateful that I was able to snag a box.
But then the wait began…
Alex and I were sitting on the couch this past Sunday when I got a text; my Owlcrate box had shipped!
Two minutes later, my phone buzzed again; My Owlcrate box had arrived! I ran to the front door, and sure enough! There was the box! (Thanks, mail person, for yet again, not ringing the doorbell…*sigh* Thank goodness it wasn’t raining today!)
Of course, I opened the box immediately!
*ATTENTION*
Please do not proceed if you are still waiting for your box to show up and don’t want to see spoilers! In the post below, I will be sharing photos of each of the items that were in the box.
Now, let’s get into the unboxing!

My First Owlcrate Unboxing: The Vicious and Vengeful Box

Owlcrate box

I LOVE the outside of the box! Though I’m sure this would be a little eerie to spot in a dark room if you weren’t expecting it!

Opening the box, I was quite surprised with how fancy it looked! It was immediately clear that the creators of this box put a lot of thought and effort into this monthly subscription box and really care about the overall experience for the customer!
The steps to unboxing that was included on the inside of the box was too cute. I loved the “if you give two hoots” line!

The first item seen in the box is the notecard that explains each item and gives a shout-out to the creator or artist. I set that aside to check out after I had seen each of the items.

The first bookish item I pulled out of the box was Mitch’s Chocolate Milk chapstick created by Geek Fire Labs. This smells AMAZING and how cute is the label? I’m really picky with my chapsticks so I didn’t try this one out; instead I’ll be handing it off to my friend Heather of Heather’s Reading Hideaway!

The next items made me cheer and jump up to show Alex right away!
I just love bookish candles and these look and smell lovely! The Eli candle is bright red and it smells both fruity and a bit like cinnamon. The Victor candle is dark gray and it smells like cologne, firewood, and laundry detergent. Now, I’m definitely not the best judge about these smells, but trust me, they smell lovely!!
To check out other candles from this vendor, check out Wick and Fable!

The next item was a super cute and wonderful quality pair of socks!! I also gave a little cheer when I pulled these out! I cannot wait to wash and wear them!

These socks were made from the artwork created by Will Staehle, who designed the Shades of Magic book covers, also designed with help from Michelle Gray.

Next up was a cute button pin as well as an awesome enamel pin.

The next item was in plastic, so it took me a second to figure out what it was. Yet again, I gave a cheer; it was a pillowcase for a throw pillow! And how AMAZING is that print!? That quote is one of my favorites!
I cannot wait to get a house and have a nice reading chair. This pillowcase will definitely find a home there.
To check out more items like this, check out Stella Bookish Art.

After the pillowcase, I thought for sure that the next item would be the book, but it wasn’t! I shouted to Alex, “It just keeps going!!”
Next up was another item wrapped in plastic to help to protect it, which I greatly appreciate! I’m obsessed with this hardcover notebook!! What a neat idea for a bookish item! I love that the designed pulled from Victor’s black-out-poetry!
Check out this creator, Hey Atlas Design.

After that, there was a really lovely bookmark with two different bits of artwork on each side and a larger illustration of Eli and Victor, both created by Melanie Bourgeois of Melie’s Scribbles.

The box also included a fun sticker that included elements of the book cover design.

And then there was a lovely handwritten (obviously reprinted) note from V.E. Schwab!

And finally, there was the star of the show; VENGEFUL!!

And just like that, I had reached the bottom of the box:

There were so many items in this special edition box that I had a hard time fitting it all into one photo!

So, what did I think?
If you didn’t guess already, I LOVED this box!
The overall presentation was lovely, the theme was awesome, and each item was really nice quality!
I’m definitely curious to check out one of the regular monthly boxes in the future to see how it compares to this special edition one.
Thanks for reading!
Have you ever gotten a monthly subscription box? If so, what did you think?

Wow, what an awesome box. Everything is so awesome. So I've not read this series yet and I can't help but notice a dog on the bookmark – is he in the books as well?

That's a lot of good swag! I'd love a UK based modern indie horror box but that is never going to happen!

Diaries of the Damned by Ivan Radev is a collectio Diaries of the Damned by Ivan Radev is a collection of tales that span numerous dark fears. But as always, even in the darkness, there’s a bit of light.

In the foreword, the author warns that this is a book of fears, and boy does he play on fears wonderfully! Each tale is presented to readers in the first person to really get readers in the characters shoes. Please use caution here when you dive in. The author does not shy away from the darkness.

Phew, this read will take readers on quite the journey! It was the perfect read for a dark and rainy spring weekend.
