A tablet lies on dry grass and surrounded by dandelions in a natural outdoor setting. The screen displays the cover of the book Everybody Is in the Place by Emma J. Gibbon. The cover features a colorful, fantastical illustration of a female figure with glowing eyes and curved horns, holding something mysterious in her hands. Stars and swirling cosmic elements fill the background, giving the cover a magical and otherworldly feel. The title text is in bold, colorful letters across the top and middle, with the author's name at the bottom.

[Book Blogger Hop] If I Had $100 To Spend

June 18, 2018      Erica Robyn      26 Comments

Book Blogger Hop

Book Blogger Hop is a weekly meme hosted by Ramblings of a Coffee Addicted Writer, where you answer a question and join a “hop”. The purpose is to help bloggers discover and get to know one another.

For this week’s question, Maria @ A Night’s Dream of Books asks:

You have just won a $100.00 Visa gift card. Will you spend the entire amount on a rare collector’s edition you have always wanted, or buy several newly-published books? Explain your choice.

My answer:

With where my fiancΓ© and I are currently with budgeting and the upcoming wedding, I would struggle with this one. If I won a $100 visa card, I would want to put it toward wedding things.

But if there was a rule that the card had to be spent on books… now we’re talking! πŸ™‚ I would definitely treat myself to a few newly-published books! There are so many great ones that have come out recently that my library hasn’t snagged yet, and I am just itching to get my hands on them!

Examples of these books can be seen below:

  • 6 April Book Releases I Can’t Wait To Read
  • 3 May Book Releases I Can’t Wait To Read
  • 3 June Book Releases I Can’t Wait To Read

Thanks for reading!
What would you do if you won $100?

I think I would spend it on multiple books. Although it would be nice to have a rare collector's edition, I would feel like I was getting more for my money if I got several books.

I would probably buy a couple of pretty books like the new illustrated Harry Potters or companion guide to the All Souls trilogy.

I would want the first edition book of Peter Pan (which probably costs more than $100 but a girl can dream!)

Tbh I would probably want to spend it on non-book-related stuff too. I tend to buy my books secondhand or borrow them from the library so I don't spend very much, but I always have a huge selection of books to read. Plus I'm fortunate in the fact that I get sent a lot of free ARC's, so I am consistently able to read new books. But I figured they meant for us to use the $100 for books lol.

Same! I get the vast majority of my books from my local library. πŸ™‚

Like you, I think multiple books would be the way to go. I love reading and while I am a collector of books, it isn't really important to me to have collector's editions. However, there are a few books I've put off because of price so maybe I'd pick one or two of them up as well.

I always use gift cards to buy full price books since it isn’t β€œmy” money.

I would pre-order the forthcoming Earthsea omnibus, which is listed at $60. Plus I've been getting the illustrated Harry Potter each year for my son for Christmas. That would pretty much take care of it.

I like the fact that you've taken actuality into account as well in the sense that you would prefer to put the money towards things for your wedding rather than just on books.

However, in the literal sense of the question, I definitely agree with you in purchasing a range of new and upcoming releases! There are a lot of books that I'm looking forward to reading or have been wanting to get my hands on for a while, so I too would put the money towards that. My reading preferences are pretty vast, so I don't think there's a collector's edition I would want badly enough to spend the money on just that.

Feel free to check out my own answer if you wish!

πŸ˜€ Thanks so much for stopping by! And yes, the opportunity to walk out of a store with an armful is just too tempting! I cannot wait to treat myself to some books I've been itching to get my hands on after the wedding!

Hi, and so sorry for the late comment back…. I've been pretty busy with schoolwork lately, and will give more details on that in my answer to tomorrow's question.

While I opted for collector's editions, I can understand others preferring to buy more recently published books. It can be VERY tempting to catch up with those! If I were to go that route, I would buy the entire Bloodlines series, by Richelle Mead. I've read her Vampire Academy series, and LOVED it, so I would want to continue reading about her AMAZING characters!

Thanks for sharing! Thanks as well for commenting on my own BBH post!! <3 πŸ™‚
