[Book Blogger Hop] My Favorite Horror/Suspense Author

October 13, 2017      Erica Robyn      23 Comments

Book Blogger Hop: Halloween Edition!

Book Blogger Hop is a weekly meme hosted by Ramblings of a Coffee Addicted Writer, where you answer a question and join a “hop”. The purpose is to help bloggers discover and get to know one another.

For this week’s question, Kitty @ Vicarious Bookworm asks:

Who is your favorite horror/suspense author and why?

My answer:
Oh my gosh. I have so many!!

To choose just one… I’d have to go with Joe Hill. I have absolutely loved everything that I have read from him so far, and I’m always so antsy to get my hands on a new book!

My Joe Hill book collection

He has a wonderful writing style that is totally in my wheelhouse. In my opinion, he has mastered adding the perfect level of creepiness and suspense to his work, which a dash of strangeness, while also making sure the character and world development are both very well written. This is key for me with suspense because if just one elements is lacking or has been over done, it can kill the book for me.

I have found that I need to pick Mr Hill’s books up on a day off because I get totally captivated by them and I cannot put them down.

While writing this post, I realized that all the novels that I have read by him were read before I started this blog! I’ll have to do some re-reading soon so I can post about them here! 🙂

Thanks for reading!
Have you read any of Joe Hill’s novels? If so, what did you think?

I listened to the audiobook version of the Locke and Key series, but otherwise, I haven't read anything by him. I'm pretty sure I own a couple of his books though, so they definitely need to be added to my sooner-rather-than-later TBR. – Katie

I love him as well but I feel like my obvious answer is Stephen King. I also recommend Hunter Shea because I've yet to read anything by him I haven't loved.

I've never read Joe Hill but I've seen some enthusiastic reviews for his stuff. I may have to give him a try! Nice that he gets the suspense and the character/ world development right. I don't read a lot of horror but he would be on my short list of authors to try, for sure.

I've not read Joe Hill. Horror's not really my genre. Your skull is cute though!

I've read Horns and The Fireman – I enjoyed both, but I think I preferred Horns a little more. I definitely want to try more of his work for sure. 🙂

Posting this comment again because I don't think it posted the first time.
I'm not a horror fan (I'm too much of a baby to not be scared lol) so I don't have a fave author. I know of horror authors like Stephen King, James Patterson, etc. But no, I do not have a main favorite.

I have not read Joe Hill, but he always pops up this time of year on other blogs. I was just recommended Heart-Shaped Box. What do you suggest as my first Joe Hill novel?

Heart-Shaped Box was the first one I read, so I would definitely recommend that one or NOS4A2! Horns is also really interesting, but a bit on the strange side.

I've never read a Joe Hill book before but that's probably because I don't read much from the horror genre. I have heard great things about his books from friends as well so I might have to check them out!

Yeah, horror can be a bit too intense, that's for sure! You may like Horns or NOS4A2! From what I remember, those are lighter on the horror factor. I'm hoping to re-read them soon 🙂

I haven't read anything by Joe Hill neither, but I don't know if I will read his books too. I really do want to give his books a chance, but I have heard there are some Christian bashing in his books. I am not Christion I am actually Catholic but I consider myself a very open minded Catholic. So I am really scared to read his books and be really disappointed in his books if it has any Christian bashing in them. But I really did love the Horn movie so I will see if I check out his books in the near future or not.

Diaries of the Damned by Ivan Radev is a collectio Diaries of the Damned by Ivan Radev is a collection of tales that span numerous dark fears. But as always, even in the darkness, there’s a bit of light.

In the foreword, the author warns that this is a book of fears, and boy does he play on fears wonderfully! Each tale is presented to readers in the first person to really get readers in the characters shoes. Please use caution here when you dive in. The author does not shy away from the darkness.

Phew, this read will take readers on quite the journey! It was the perfect read for a dark and rainy spring weekend.
