When the Wolf Comes Home by Nat Cassidy | Horror Audiobook Review

When the Wolf Comes Home by Nat Cassidy is a tale that is raw, brutal, and haunting. I dove into this one knowing absolutely nothing about it, and I can easily say it’s a story that will forever stick with readers.

Content Warnings: The biggest ones are violence and child endangerment. Nat himself narrates the most perfect content warning section I have ever heard. THE END of this section… mic drop.

Let’s dive in!

My Thoughts on When the Wolf Comes Home by Nat Cassidy, narrated by Helen Laser & Nat Cassidy –

After an initial scene of absolutely horrific things a child is experiencing, we move to focus on Jess, a struggling actress, who returns home to find a five-year-old boy hiding outside her apartment. One terrifying encounter with his father later, and they’re suddenly on the run. Things get violent fast, and the deeper the story goes, the darker and more intense it becomes.

I loved Jess. She had her own fears and struggles, and yet the second this little boy needed help, she didn’t hesitate. She stepped up immediately. Even when things got REALLY scary, she refused to give up on him. There was something so powerful about watching her choose the boy she didn’t know over self-preservation again and again.

And the boy… the more we start to understand what’s really going on, the worse I felt for him. That slow realization hit hard. You start off worried, and by the end, you’re just completely heartbroken for him and everyone who knows him.

It’s tense, it’s bloody, and there are some genuinely disturbing moments. But underneath all of that, this story was so emotional. It’s not just about running from something horrific; it’s about protection, resilience, and the kind of love that shows up instantly when someone vulnerable needs it.

I also wanted to note that I listened to this on audio. There was one scene specifically where a female and male narrator overlapped, and my gosh… that added an extra layer of emotion to the scene. Overall, I absolutely LOVED this narrator. They did an amazing job layering in different tones and urgency with her voice that played so well with the content itself!

My Favorite Passages from When the Wolf Comes Home –

It looms over the body of the woman who must have lived in this house. Most of her body at least. The bottom half of her face is somewhere to the side.

The world is midnight silent, save for the whisper of leaves. But does she hear a rustling inside the house?

My Final Thoughts on When the Wolf Comes Home –

After finishing this read, I had to sit for a bit and digest. My gosh. This broke me so badly.

Horror fans who love fast-paced rides through absolutely horrific situations, you’re going to love this! Just please note the content warnings from Nat before proceeding with the read if you need them.
