Violent Vixens: A Homage to Grindhouse Horror edited by Aric Sundquist is a vicious and brutal collection of tales set up like a series of double features. I am obsessed with this anthology!

Let’s dive in!

My Thoughts on Violent Vixens: A Homage to Grindhouse Horror edited by Aric Sundquist –

My GOSH, this read was a blast! I absolutely love the format, and each story was absolutely wild.

My favorites from this collection include:

  • The Parts That Hurt Me The Most by Matt Neil Hill
  • Bloody Bon Secours by Sarah Read
  • The Saw House by Shannon Brady
  • Animate Objects by Adrian Ludens
  • Finger Lickin’ Bad by Nick Patrick

Per usual, here are my thoughts on each tale!

The Whole Price Of Blood by Scotty Milder –

When a young woman comes into the hospital after being attacked, another helps her process what had happened and then begins to plan the revenge.

I am so here for these monsters getting what’s coming to them. This revenge was wonderful!

What The Bone Says by Rob E. Boley –

After being dumped and left for dead, this woman has two choices: crawl back to the road or embrace the darkness of the woods…

My gosh, the rage this one filled me with! So so so glad she got revenge!

Collette by Sophie Leah –

On a journey to take down her tormentors, this woman isn’t afraid to make things messy.

A love story wrapped in blood! This was wild!

The Parts That Hurt Me The Most by Matt Neil Hill –

After their big plan, the celebration ends in blood. A lot of blood.

Holy! This was WILD! Knowing very little about these people, I was rooting for our main character right away! I was not prepared for that ending!

Bloody Bon Secours by Sarah Read –

Sent to this home after the man of the house she was a sitter for got her pregnant, she quickly lets her motherly instincts take over and guide her next quest.

Ah man, you go girl! The most mom side of me was RAGING with this one.

City Monitors by S.K. Campbell –

In a world where human augmentation has become the norm, this woman has the ability to do the amazing with her art. But when commissioned for a special piece, it sets her girlfriend on edge.

The ending here!!

The Dressmaker by Buck Weiss –

When a group of men arrives in her home, they immediately make their intentions known, and she… plays along.

My heart rate was through the roof on this one! My gosh, I was so nervous for this mother and daughter!

Killer Of Hogs by Mark Wheaton –

When two adopted sibling try to find their families, disaster strikes, leaving one dead and one on a mission of revenge.

Phew, this one started out unsettling and then ended with quite the brutal sequence!! This was wild!

Hail Hell’s Whipping Fury! by Jaap Boekestein –

When a situation goes sideways, this woman has one more chance at revenge thanks to a deal with the devil.

This was such a fast-paced tale of revenge! My goodness!

The Saw House by Shannon Brady –

Ready to try her luck at passing a test to become one of them, this woman with her chainsaw takes off before thinking twice.

Absolutely brutal! I loved this!

Animate Objects by Adrian Ludens –

Approached by a newcomer while in jail, this woman tells her story to explain why people give her space.

This is such a wild and terrifying concept! OBSESSED with this story! The little hint at what could come later was brilliant.

Finger Lickin’ Bad by Nick Patrick –

When she accidentally offends the shop owner, this woman, who was just there to buy a few chicks, learns exactly what their special feed is.

My kiddo is obsessed with farm animals and dinosaurs right now, so this was a fun tale to visit! I loved this as is, but oh my gosh I also want more!

Sister Glitter Blood by Gwendolyn Kiste –

Playing a game late at night, these two girls see it’s a bit too real… but will they finish the game?

Oh, the setup of this as a game’s instructions was so cool! This was so intense!

The Course Of One’s Life On Fire by Paul Magnan –

When this woman, who already struggles with her outbursts, is pushed over the edge, it has explosive consequences.

Ah, this made my heart hurt for her poor son. The rage over the animals pooping in her yard and the wild roads rage incident, totally relatable.

Rose Pink And Roadhouse Blue by S.R. Miller –

When his wife calls him predictable, this man does something unpredictable and picks up a hitchhiker. Of course, things don’t end well.

The tension here! Oh my gosh. I loved the scene in the roadhouse parking lot that gave a very uneasy hint at what may come next.

My Favorite Passage from Violent Vixens –

The fire had warmed the bayonet till I could hardly feel it in my fingers. It matched my temperature perfectly, as if it were an extension of my arm. Or an extension of his throat, where I planted it deep.
— Bloody Bon Secours by Sarah Read

My Final Thoughts on Violent Vixens –

I saw a social media post just before I opened the pages of this book that was about how horror understands women better than any other genre. That certainly rings true here!

Horror fans, you’re in for a treat!
