Small Town Slasher by Stephanie Rose is the tale that all slasher fans need to jump into. It’s got the terror, it’s got the suspense and mystery, and of course, it’s got the bloodshed.

Let’s dive in!

My Thoughts on Small Town Slasher by Stephanie Rose –

Taking a plunge and booking a trip to stay in a horror-themed rental, this woman battles her anxiety to try to have a fun adventure. But little does she know, she’s booked a stay not only in a town with a bloody history, but on the lot where the killer had lived.

At first, she thinks it’s interesting, but soon she finds herself relying on her knowledge of horror to stay alive.

Oh my gosh, this had so many amazing horror tropes thrown in! For major horror fans, some kills will be predictable, but this author doesn’t let that keep the full terror from seeping in! I wish I had taken a tally for how many times I cringed or thought “oh good lord” while reading due to the violence!

I had so much fun with this read. Every time I put it down, I was so upset! I just wanted to keep reading!

This had a lovely layer of humor that was a nice reprieve from the horror as well.

The main character, Jenna, reminded me SO much of a friend who passed away during COVID. These two could have seriously been twin sisters with how spot on their anxieties and senses of humor were! Even the coping mechanisms and their process in trusting others were so similar.

And major props to the author for all the amazing quotes from movies, and all the shoutouts to other horror authors and podcasts that were included throughout!

My Favorite Passages from Small Town Slasher –

I have severe body image issues, but watching this scene makes me grateful don’t look as bad as the decaying corpse. What a nice way to give myself a compliment.

When he’s almost close enough to touch his SUV, he holsters his weapon. On cue, the Slasher steps out from behind a tree, like he grew out of the forest. He walks up slowly behind the oblivious sheriff.

This day feels like it’s lasted a whole week and my body is acting up. My knife wounds are throbbing, the rest of me aches like I’ve been hit by a truck, and my chronic pain has the nerves in my arms and back lit up like they’re strung with Xmas lights.

I look up just in time to see him get brained with a heavy hardcover book. God damn nonfiction section, it has all the chonkers.

My Final Thoughts on Small Town Slasher –

This novel is an absolutely lovely ode to slashers, but one that brings in fresh horror of its own! I had a BLAST reading, even in the scenes that made me wildly uncomfortable!
