My Thoughts on Gifts Between Us by C.C. Adams –
Grumpy, alone, and left to sit and reflect on his life decisions, this old man is just waiting for the end to come for him. But one night, when he’s saved from a mugging by a stranger, his curiosity keeps him nearby rather than running to safety as the stranger warns. What he sees next has him determined to find this stranger again to speak with him. He lucks out and ends up bringing the stranger into his home, and convinces him to open up and share his story.
What this old man learns is much more than he anticipated… But what the stranger learns is worse.
OH MY GOSH. I love reading a book where I try to guess at what’s to come. I was never correct here! I had such a blast reading and seeing everything as it rolled out. The author did such an amazing job organizing this tale’s plot and pacing. I was absolutely hooked!
Overall, the tone felt pretty light and heartwarming, but you get little glimpses into the grief, regret, and other darkness that is there as well. And boy, those darker glimpses are brutal, and all lead up to a terror-filled ending!

When Kayleigh Dobbs of French Press reached out asking if I had any interest in this one, I replied, “Ooooooh! Yes PLEASE. This sounds wild!” And WILD it sure was!!
