A tablet lies on dry grass and surrounded by dandelions in a natural outdoor setting. The screen displays the cover of the book Everybody Is in the Place by Emma J. Gibbon. The cover features a colorful, fantastical illustration of a female figure with glowing eyes and curved horns, holding something mysterious in her hands. Stars and swirling cosmic elements fill the background, giving the cover a magical and otherworldly feel. The title text is in bold, colorful letters across the top and middle, with the author's name at the bottom.

[Book Blogger Hop] Reading Tie-In Novels To The Screen

July 29, 2017      Erica Robyn      8 Comments

Book Blogger Hop

Book Blogger Hop is a weekly meme hosted by Ramblings of a Coffee Addicted Writer, where you answer a question and join a “hop”. The purpose is to help bloggers discover and get to know one another.
For this week’s question, Billy @ Coffee Addicted Writer asks:
Do you read tie-in novels to movies or television series? If so, which ones?

My answer:
Yes! One of my favorite things is finding out that there are books or comics that are tie-ins with tv shows or movies! Though to be totally honest, I do struggle with figuring out if the book came before the show/movie.

Though right off the top of my head, I immediately thought of Schooled in Revenge by Jesse Lasky, which is a novel written in the Revenge TV show world. I LOVED this book. Of course I will never know if I liked it so much because I had watched the show…or if I would have liked it without watching the show.

Schooled In Revenge was a quick read for me and I found it extremely enjoyable. I had a very hard time putting it down, so I read it in just a few sittings. I thought that the author captured the tone and action of the TV show wonderfully!

To those that pick this up expecting it to be just like the show: the story is NOT about the main characters of the TV show. Emily Thorne does make a few appearances, but this story follows five new individuals as they train with Takeda to get revenge on those that wronged them.

When I read the very last page, I immediately wanted a book 2! I hope the author is working on one!! I highly recommend this to anyone that has read the show, or anyone that likes stories about revenge.

My favorite excerpt from the book:
“Some things cannot be fixed,” Takeda said, stopping at her side. “We can only let them go.”

Thanks for reading!
What are some of your favorite tie-in novels?

There's a Revenge book? How did I miss that! I've enjoyed some of the Doctor Who, Buffy, and Angel books in the past. πŸ™‚

The one I read was called Schooled By Revenge. It wasn't about Emily, but a girl that trained with the same man that trained Emily. I really loved it, even though it was quite outside the norm of the show πŸ™‚
