Armchair Book Expo – Teatime with Victoria Schwab

Welcome to day three of the Armchair Book Expo!
Today I will be discussing how I would like to treat Victoria Schwab to tea, why I judge books by their covers, and what my preferred book formats are.
Enjoy!

Delving Into Diversity:
Book Expo sparked quite the controversy a couple years ago regarding diversity in books and authors. Where are we now? OR, let’s take a different direction and explore the diversity of the format of a book. Do we judge a book by its cover and/or content (e.g., audio, digital, graphic, etc.)? Or, combine the two topics and discuss diversity found in alternative content (e.g., representation in graphic novels). Get creative and maybe even controversial!
I wasn’t blogging during the controversy that was sparked during a past Expo, but I would love to hear more about it! πŸ˜‰
And oh, I totally judge books by their covers. I can’t help it; great covers can just instantly draw me in! I think it’s just the artsy side of me… However, I am aware that I am drawn to well designed covers more frequently. And obviously I know that just because a book looks pretty on the outside doesn’t mean the content on the inside will be interesting to me. I have read some lovely books that had absolutely horrid covers!
When it comes to book formats, I’ve noticed that I am becoming less and less picky. I love my kindle and the ease of reading an ebook, though I prefer to purchase hardcovers for my shelves. I will also purchase paperbacks, just not the small mass produced ones if I can help it. And I’m a total sucker for comics and graphic novels both in print and digital form (I really miss my Marvel Unlimited subscription!).
Dining With the Authors:
Every year at Book Expo, children and adult authors are featured during breakfast. Who would you dream of enjoying a meal with? Would it be breakfast, lunch, dinner, or simply coffee? What would your meal be? What would you discuss?
Oh, what a lovely prompt! There are so many authors that I would love to enjoy a meal with… but I think my top pick would have to be Victoria Schwab.
Victoria seems like such an incredible person, and she works herself so hard! I would love to treat her to an afternoon tea, complete with plenty of yummy snacks!
As for what I would like to discuss, hmm… I’m not sure exactly, but I would like to think that I would avoid all of the questions that she is typically asked, like why she became a writer, what her writing process is, et cetera. I’d like to keep the conversation fun and upbeat so it didn’t sway into an typical Q&A session. For example, we could talk about our favorite teas (anything but Earl Gray!).
Thanks for reading!
I hope to see you during today’s Twitter Party at 2 PM EST! Today’s topic is “Favorite Authors.”

What, no Earl Grey? That's one of my favorite teas…
Well if you are having cream tea, please do invite me too. I'd love to have some scones with jam and clotted cream with my Earl Grey πŸ™‚ Deelish!

Ha! I personally don't really like Earl Grey, but perhaps I just haven't tired a decent brand? Victoria Schwab tweeted a while ago about how she doesn't like it either.

I'd love to have tea with you!!

Victoria Schwab would be such an awesome author to sit down and chat with! She's seems so sweet and her books are awesome (we definitely need to re-read This Savage Song soon and also read A Darker Shade of Magic!!!) and so addicting.

Also giving you some side eye about no Earl Grey πŸ˜‰ it's interesting that you both have that in common though!! πŸ˜€

I've skipped the dinner with an author question because I never know how to answer such a thing.

    Hi Erica,

Even though I haven't been able to participate, I've been following Armchair regularly. Looks like you're having lots of fun. =)

Yes, I would love more diverse book. And, I never judge a book by it's cover. (nose elongating uncontrollably) πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

Good point to avoid the usual questions when meeting with an author. One thing I always want to know, though, is what are their favorite books!

Awesome post! Victoria Schwab is so nice! I met her in March and got my ARC of This Savage Song signed. I didn't really get to chat though. I hope one day you get to have a chat with her. Thank you for sharing!

Ahh, I also judge books by their covers, probably more often than I should ^^; I find what happens more frequently is that I choose books with lovely covers that turn out to be not at all interesting to me, haha. I can't think of a book I've read with a bad cover that turned out to be wonderful.

I also love your idea of hanging out with Victoria Schwab! She is so creative; I would like to chat with her to learn more about the Londons in the Shades of Magic trilogy.

Oh my gosh yes… That happens to me all the time. I LOVED the cover of And I Darken, but did not like the book very much.

Thank you for stopping by today. I hope I wouldn't be nervous chatting with an author but guess it depends on who it is.

I don't know what it is but I have a real hard time getting into ebooks. I really want this newer form of consuming books, but I love the feel of a book in hand so much. Having a meal with Victoria Schwab sounds fantastic. She's such an amazing writer and I marvel at how many titles she's put out the last couple of years. Definitely think she deserves a little down time.

I know a lot of people that feel that way. Sometimes I think it's mainly due to ebook format. For example, the kindle isn't backlit, so I personally have a wonderful time reading it. But other eReaders, like the iPad, are backlit and I can't read on them for very long. The same holds true for a PDF copy of a book that needs to be read off a computer.

      Thanks for stopping by!

It's hard to resist those beautiful covers, isn't it? I've been burned more than once by a lovely cover with a lousy story, but I can't seem to resist the temptation! Your tea with Victoria Schwab sounds lovely.
