A tablet lies on dry grass and surrounded by dandelions in a natural outdoor setting. The screen displays the cover of the book Everybody Is in the Place by Emma J. Gibbon. The cover features a colorful, fantastical illustration of a female figure with glowing eyes and curved horns, holding something mysterious in her hands. Stars and swirling cosmic elements fill the background, giving the cover a magical and otherworldly feel. The title text is in bold, colorful letters across the top and middle, with the author's name at the bottom.

[Book Blogger Hop] How Many Books I Read At Once

September 22, 2018      Erica Robyn      30 Comments

Book Blogger Hop

Book Blogger Hop is a weekly meme hosted by Ramblings of a Coffee Addicted Writer, where you answer a question and join a “hop”. The purpose is to help bloggers discover and get to know one another.

For this week’s question, Cathy @ What Cathy Read Next asked:

Do you like to finish one book before starting the next or do you read several at once?

My answer:
I try to read only one book at a time because I really enjoy fully immersing myself into the story without distraction.

However, every now and then I will be reading one book while working on listening to a second on audio when I can’t otherwise be “reading.” Like when I am driving to work, or doing housework for example.

Thanks for reading!

I have an audio book to listen to when I am driving, cleaning etc. and a physical book for when I have free time.

    So the answer is 2.

I usually have two going – one physical book and one audiobook in the car!

Yes, audio is a good way to mix it up; however, I've never gotten into audio books much myself. I think I'm too much of a visual person. I don't take it in so well just listening.

Yeah, I have to stick to audiobooks that I've read the physical copy of before… otherwise I lose focus!

I usually have at least two going at the same time – and one of those is usually an audiobook. πŸ™‚

I used to never read more than one book at a time but now I do. Listening to an audiobook book and reading a physical book is perfect. Then you have a book to read when you can’t just sit and read.

I'm a one book at a time person too, usually. Occasionally two. I'm always afraid I'll get myself stretched too thin and lose track of details if I have too many going. πŸ™‚

I look always whether there's a movie made from a book, especially when it is old, just got this week on YouTube "account rendered" from old novel by Pamela Barrington at one time more popular than Agatha Christie

I have to just read one at a time. I like to fully concentrate on one book so I can finish it in a day or two and move on to the next one. I wouldn't like reading several at a time as I'd feel I wasn't making progress with any of them! If I was driving a distance to work I might listen to audiobooks though I only have 12 in my collection!

Of late I have been reading 2 or 3 at the same time. One hard copy that I carry when I go out and I expect a waiting time. The e book that I am currently reading before go off to sleep and one for when I get time unexpectedly, like standing in a queue, waiting for someone or between books.

Your answer actually reminds me part of why I read multiple books at once. You like to be immersed in a single story, I prefer not to get so immersed, because when I do, the books end up invading my dreams and that often leaves me feeling exhausted the next day.

Have a great weekend. – Katie

I used to be a monogamous reader, but now I tend to juggle more than one at once. This year I am taking part in two year long read-alongs, and to keep me on pace, I have to read other books in between. Right now I have four going. The two read-alongs and a physical book and one on my Kindle. A lot depends on what I can read when, convenience wise. I am one of those readers who gets totally immersed in a book and haven't had too much difficulty with that reading multiple books, fortunately. Although sometimes I fight with myself over which book to read when I am so into more than one book at once! Have a great week, Erica!

haha! Oh I can imagine that it would be hard to stick to one book over another at some points! Especially if the genres differ!

Have a great week as well! πŸ™‚

I tend to read a few at once; I just have to keep going back and forth so I don't start reading one more than another – then it can be easy to get confused or forget things. πŸ™‚

I think reading across different formats like physical and audiobook for you is the main way people end up multi reading. I multi read like crazy! But I think the idea of reading one at a time like you do would be cool too.
