[Book Blogger Hop] My Favorite Genre

February 14, 2020      Erica Robyn      21 Comments

Book Blogger Hop Meme

Book Blogger Hop is a weekly meme hosted by Ramblings of a Coffee Addicted Writer, where you answer a question and join a “hop”. The purpose is to help bloggers discover and get to know one another.

For this week’s Book Blogger Hop, Shahnila @ Untiereaders asks:

Which genre do you like the most?

BBH My Answer

You all can probably guess… My favorite genre is Horror!

I’m a huge fan of horror books, movies, tv shows, games… you name it!

When I first started blogging, my reading tastes were all over the place, but recently I’ve definitely been more horror/thriller/mystery focused.

I’m not super picky about breaking things down into specific subgenres, but it is one of my goals to learn which sub-genres aren’t for me. So far it’s just the super sexual horror tales that I don’t enjoy.

Thanks for reading!
I can’t wait to see what you all say your favorite genre is!

For me it has to be contemporary with fantasy a close second! I tried horror for the first time last year and I have to say it interested me more than expected. Hope to read more this year!

I’m such a wimp when it comes to horror, lol. I had a hard time picking my favorite. It really depends on my mood each day. Today it’s Urban Fantasy. Tomorrow, it’ll probably be something totally different, lol. 😀

I love horror. It’s a way to be brave while still being in charge (because you can always close the book!).

There are definitely some sub-genres within each main genre that I like more than others and some I don’t care for at all. I know with horror, I tend to prefer the more psychological thrilling ones and don’t especially like the blood and gore ones. I don’t think I would be a fan of the sexual horror sub-genre either. Even when it comes to romance, I don’t like the taboo and dark romance that some find really appealing–I imagine sexual horror would be similar. I hope you have a great weekend, Erica!

Definitely!! That’s an excellent point. I can’t do the erotic horror either, it’s just way too much for me.

I think mine would be between historical fiction and contemporary!

Horror would be my pick as well for sure! Give me an 80’s retro slasher, a fast paced creature feature with Sasquatches, sharks, sea monsters etc, gory cannibals, something lurking in the woods or escaping from a lab, and I’m a happy Chuckles!

Hi there! At first I read only mysteries and thrillers. Now I added fantasies, too. I’m like you. I try to understand which genre isn’t for me and unfortunately horror isn’t for me… (but I did read a lot of King when I was a teenager… don’t ask me why…) 😀

    Have a nice weekend!

Why am I not surprised by this genre choice? I like horror films but I have not been reading horror a lot lately… I need to change that at some point! I recently read Annihilation though!

I started out reading Horror in my teens and then switched to romance as I got older. Then I found paranormal romance ad have stuck with that for years. For me it’s the right mix of monsters and romance to keep me coming back. lol

This is a tough one since my reading tastes are all over the place. If I had to pick just one though, I’d probably go with historical fiction. That seems to be the one I come back to the most.

I went to follow him and his publishing house, Perpetual Motion Machine (that he runs with Lori Michelle), immediately after his reading.

Within the PMM publishing house, they also have the imprint, Ghoulish Books, which launched in January of 2022. Max’s latest book, Maggots Screaming!, launched today April 12th, 2022 from that imprint. In celebration, I’m so excited to be sharing this interview with Max!

Diaries of the Damned by Ivan Radev is a collectio Diaries of the Damned by Ivan Radev is a collection of tales that span numerous dark fears. But as always, even in the darkness, there’s a bit of light.

In the foreword, the author warns that this is a book of fears, and boy does he play on fears wonderfully! Each tale is presented to readers in the first person to really get readers in the characters shoes. Please use caution here when you dive in. The author does not shy away from the darkness.

Phew, this read will take readers on quite the journey! It was the perfect read for a dark and rainy spring weekend.
