[Book Blogger Hop] First Edition Wishes

Book Blogger Hop is a weekly meme hosted by Ramblings of a Coffee Addicted Writer, where you answer a question and join a "hop". The purpose is to help bloggers discover and get to know one another.

For this week's question, Billy @ Coffee Addicted Writer asked:

If you could travel back in time to purchase the first printing of a specific novel, what book would that be?

[Book Review] Collected Christmas Horror Shorts 2 by Kevin J. Kennedy

Short Story Review of Collected Christmas Horror Shorts 2 by Kevin J. Kennedy

Collected Christmas Horror Shorts 2 was an awesomely dark collection of short stories.

When Kevin J. Kennedy sent me a copy of Collected Christmas Horror Shorts 2,  I was so antsy to dive in! I just couldn't wait for Thanksgiving to come and go so I could read this one.

On November 23rd (the day after the US Thanksgiving), I turned on my Kindle and started the first tale...

Full disclosure: I was given a free copy of this book from the authors in exchange for an honest review. This did not affect my rating in any way.

[Book Review] The Broken Girls by Simone St. James

Book Review of The Broken Girls by Simone St. James

The Broken Girls by Simone St. James is a tale that occurs in two timelines that are woven together so wonderfully. I was so impressed by all the smaller details that went into this storyline and how it all built up to that ending!

This is a book that I already cannot wait to read again!

Full disclosure: I was gifted an ARC of this book from a fellow blogging friend, Chris Wolak of WildMooBooks (thanks again, Chris!!). Any quotes I have pulled out in my review below may no longer be accurate, unfortunately I was not yet able to compare it to the final version.

[Audible Original Review] Evil Has A Name

Audible Original Review of Evil Has A Name

Evil Has A Name is a very well put together series about the monster that has become known as The Golden State Killer.

I had previously read I'll Be Gone in the Dark by Michelle McNamara and was chilled to the bone with the case. When I first heard about this being released as a Audible Original, I couldn't wait to give it a listen because I wanted to learn more about the investigation and all of the work that went into it.

Bookish Heirloom

Every year, the Metcalf clan gets together for "Birthday Breakfast." This is an event that one of Alex's family members, Gail, organizes to treat everyone to breakfast rather than giving out birthday gifts throughout the year.

It's always a lot of fun to get together and enjoy great food. But this year was extra special!

[Book Review] A Little Tea Book: All the Essentials from Leaf to Cup

A Little Tea Book: All the Essentials from Leaf to Cup is an absolute treat to read while sitting with a great cup of tea! A must-read for any tea lover!

I won a copy of this book in a giveaway. So thanks again to Nicole from Bloomsbury for sending a copy my way!

The book's introduction begins with:

You’re holding this book because you love tea.
Perhaps you can’t begin your morning without
a cup of English Breakfast. You may have a favorite
mug. You might carry that mug to work, along with
an assortment of teabags.

I was already wicked excited to dive into this book, but from that passage, I knew I'd be in for a treat!

[Book Review] Elevation by Stephen King

Book Review of Elevation by Stephen King

Elevation by Stephen King wasn't what I was expecting from a book categorized as horror.

But simply thinking about the plot afterward... now that was truly terrifying!

[Book Review] The Cabin in the Woods: The Official Visual Companion

Book Review of The Cabin in the Woods: The Official Visual Companion

The Cabin in the Woods is one of my all time favorite movies. When I first watched it, I was expecting a true horror film, but I was so happy to learn that it was a wonderful mashup of horror comedy!

So when I saw a copy of The Cabin in the Woods: The Official Visual Companion at my local Goodwill, I was ecstatic! Of course I snatched it up immediately and went directly to the register.

This was absolutely everything I was hoping it would be.

[Children's Book Review] Spider-Man, Spider-Man! by Marvel Press Book Group

Children's Book Review of Spider-Man, Spider-Man! by Marvel Press Book Group

Spider-Man, Spider-Man! by Marvel Press Book Group is such a beautifully illustrated and fun read along that comes with a CD of two songs that you can use to read along with or simply have some great background music!

This is another book that I bought as a gift and read first to make sure I was passing along a good story! It was indeed a fun little story!

[Book Review] Certain Dark Things by Silvia Moreno-Garcia

Book Review of Certain Dark Things by Silvia Moreno-Garcia

Certain Dark Things by Silvia Moreno-Garcia was a dark, brutal, and action-packed read about vampires in Mexico City that I could not put down.

It has been a very long time since I read a book about vampires that I enjoyed. I picked this one up after reading a review from Deanna of Deanna Reads Books (click here to read her review of Certain Dark Things!). I was so happy when my copy arrived! I began reading and right from the first page, I totally sucked in.

So heads up, once you sink your teeth into this one, you won't want to let up. (Ha! Sorry, I just had to.)

Hey Top 10 Tuesday crew!

With the holidays quickly approaching, I just couldn't resist this prompt!

Many of the items that made my list are things that I am waiting on purchasing for when Alex and I have a house rather than our current living situation. I cannot wait to move and decorate a new space!

[Novella Review] Flying Broomsticks and Buns by L.M. Schukraft

Flying Broomsticks and Buns by L.M. Schukraft is a novella that was released on Halloween... While the demons may have been up to a few tricks, this read was an absolute treat!

Oh my goodness. When I first saw L.M. Schukraft post about how she was creating a novella for Halloween, I could not wait to get my hands on a copy! I preordered the story just as soon as the Amazon link went live and dove in as soon as it was released!

I so wish I could have sat around all Halloween night to read straight through. Unfortunately, I was too busy to do so, so I read this over the course of three days. Even so, it was a wonderful read!

[Wrap-Up] October 2018

Wrap-Up for October 2018

Ah, October. My favorite month! It went by far too quickly!

This month was filled with some name change related stress and craziness, but I made great progress!  I've almost reached the end of my list of updates! I just have to change the utilities and get my bank accounts settled so I can close one and move over to Alex's bank fully. I cannot wait to have everything done!

I also had to get a flu shot AND a tetanus shot this month... The tetanus shot, surprisingly, didn't hurt nearly as much as I remember my last one hurting, though my arm was sore for over a week! My poor nurse had me sit in the room to relax for a few minutes before she would let me drive after she stuck me. I will just never understand why I'm totally fine with tattoo needles, but give me a medical shot, and I'm a fainting mess...

And then I learned the hard way... That you should never wear a romper with tight shoulder straps the day you get a tetanus shot... getting in and out of the whole thing each time you have to pee will be a very, very painful process. To make matters worse, I learned this lesson the day I traveled to Portland, Maine for a wedding.

But, the sore arm was pretty easy to ignore during the afternoon of the 6th of this month, because I got celebrate my friend and college roommate when she got married to her soulmate!! Doesn't she look absolutely STUNNING?!

This month I also finally did a deep cleaning of our townhouse post-wedding. It felt SO nice to get everything cleaned up. Not that our place was actually dirty, I just hated not being able to clean as usual when all the wedding decor and such started piling up and taking over the place.

I felt so accomplished getting a lot of the wedding items donated or thrown away, depending on their usefulness. Some of the items, we now have on display in our place. Such as the advice cards, which we shuffle every now and then to put a new one on the top:

We were gifted something from my friend Amber, who was one of my bridesmaids, and her husband Robby. How incredible is this?! She gifted us the speech they wrote for us, which Amber gave at the reception, and a beautiful drawing of my favorite flower which now lives on my work desk at home!

And to wrap things up for the month, we had a wonderful work celebration where my team had a Harry Potter theme!

Without further delay, let's dive in to my monthly wrap-up!
