[Wrap-Up] September 2018

Wrap-Up for September 2012

Phew this month was crazy busy! I know I've said this every month for the last few months, but this one... this was the craziest of them all!

Leading up to the wedding on the 7th, I was a total mess of anxiety. But then before I knew it, our wedding had come and gone! It was such an amazing day. We really lucked out with the weather and we had so much fun!

I am planning to do a quick post to share some of my favorite photos, so stay tuned if you'd like to see more!

After the wedding, we had a short staycation where we got to spend a lot of time with our friends from Illinois as we showed them around our area! We took them to Hampton (NH), Rye Beach (NH), York (ME), Salem (MA), Portsmouth (NH) and a few places in-between. It was SO difficult saying goodbye to them at the end of their trip. I really hope Alex and I can fly out to visit them again soon!

The week I returned to my full-time job post-wedding, I had to go to Oshawa in Canada to visit a member. Landing at the Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport was interesting! To get off that little island we had to take a ferry. It was the quickest ferry ride I have ever taken; it just took 54 seconds to get across! This trip was a day trip where I was up and out by 4am and I didn't get back home until 10pm. It was a great trip, but try tiring of course. Especially because I do not like flying... so the anxiety from that totally zapped me.

That same week that I returned to work, we had a team building day where our team was split up into three groups and then we all spent the morning doing three escape rooms. My team got out of two out of the three! We didn't get out of the first one, but I'm sure if we had done that one second or third that we would have.

And of course, that same week, I also restarted work for my side jobs. I was busy playing a bit of catch up, but it was so nice to get back into the swing of things!

Without further delay, let's dive in to my monthly wrap-up!

[Book Review] Vicious by V.E. Schwab

Book Review of Vicious by V.E. Schwab

Vicious by V.E. Schwab is a fast-paced tale about two men who met in college and became quick friends. Though during their senior year they turned enemies when they discovered a very powerful thing while working on their theses; how people with ExtraOrdinary abilities are created.

I have been meaning to reread this one ever since I had first read it. When Vengeful, the follow up book, arrived on my doorstep in the Vicious and Vengeful edition OwlCrate box, I finally picked this one up again.

On the second read through, this one was just as amazing as the first read.

My First Owlcrate Unboxing: The Vicious and Vengeful Box

The Vicious and Vengeful Owlcrate box

I signed up for the Owlcrate newsletter ages ago to check out their limited edition boxes as well as the monthly themes, just waiting to see one that piqued my interest. Sure enough, I got an email announcing a special edition box in collaboration with the one and only, V.E. Schwab. I clicked the link immediately and ordered one. Just three hours later, I was scrolling through instagram and saw Owlcrate post that the box had already sold out! I'm so very grateful that I was able to snag a box.

But then the wait began...

Alex and I were sitting on the couch this past Sunday when I got a text; my Owlcrate box had shipped!

Two minutes later, my phone buzzed again; My Owlcrate box had arrived! I ran to the front door, and sure enough! There was the box! (Thanks, mail person, for yet again, not ringing the doorbell...*sigh* Thank goodness it wasn't raining today!

Of course, I opened the box immediately!

*ATTENTION*
Please do not proceed if you are still waiting for your box to show up and don't want to see spoilers! In the post below, I will be sharing photos of each of the items that were in the box.

Now, let's get into the unboxing!

Visiting Wicked Good Books in Salem, MA

After the wedding, we went to Salem, MA for the day to show our Illinois friends around. While on that trip, I, of course, stopped into the local bookshop!

This is definitely one of my favorite shops in New England! I just have to stop in each time I'm in the area.

[Book Review] New Hampshire Book of the Dead: Graveyard Legends and Lore by Roxie J. Zwicker

Book Review of New Hampshire Book of the Dead: Graveyard Legends and Lore by Roxie J. Zwicker

New Hampshire Book of the Dead: Graveyard Legends and Lore by Roxie J. Zwicker is such an interesting and well written collection of tales from the beautiful state of New Hampshire.

When I saw this book sitting on a shelf at Deadwicks in Portsmouth, New Hampshire while on my bachelorette party trip, I just had to snag it!

When I was at the counter to pay for it, the gal working the shop let me know that the person standing next to her was actually the author! So of course we asked if she would sign my book. What she wrote was just perfect:

[Book Review] Starry Messenger by Ethan Howard

Starry Messenger by Ethan Howard, the first book in the Opportvnvs Adest series, was an interesting combination of romance, spirituality, science fiction, and, of course, the battle between good and evil.

This one wasn't exactly in my wheelhouse, but I did enjoy the read!

Full disclosure: I was given a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. This did not affect my rating in any way.
