[Audiobook Review] Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone by J.K. Rowling, Narrated by Jim Dale

Listening to Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets on audio again was so much fun. I mean, diving into the world of Harry Potter is always such a treat, but there is something so special about listening to the story be told. This is definitely one that I could listen to time and time again!

Let’s dive in!

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone by J.K. Rowling, Narrated by Jim Dale

I’m sure most of us understand the synopsis of this book, so I won’t waste must time reviewing the story itself. In the off chance that you hadn’t heard about Harry Potter, feel free to check out the synopsis here.

When it comes to the story itself, I will say that this is one of my favorite novels of all time. Each time I read it, listen to the audio book, or watch the film, I am transported back to the very first time I read the story after a friend from LA brought me the book. It’s such an amazing story about friendship, bravery, and of course, magic.

The narrator, Jim Dale, did such a wonderful job bringing the story to life. Each time I picked up my phone to turn on Audible, I was drawn in immediately and any task that I had been doing (laundry, dishes, dusting, etc.) just flew right by! I’ve heard so many people say that when they listen to audiobooks, they take their time with household tasks, or they may even find an excuse to go do laundry just to get away and listen to the story a bit longer. That was 100% the case here! Even though I knew exactly what was going to happen next, I still had so much fun listening!

The narrator did various voices for the different characters. While I did really enjoy it, there was one voice that hurt my ears a bit; the sorting hat. But I’ve got a weird thing with tones like that, so this is totally just a personal thing.

My final thoughts:
I very highly recommend this audiobook! If you’re looking to revisit the magical world, or perhaps looking for something for your next family or solo road trip, this would be a perfect fit! I cannot wait to snag book two at some point to add it to my collection!

Thanks for reading!
Do you have a book on audio that you could listen to over and over again?

  1. I can't really get into audios, but I DO want to try a Harry Potter book at some point because I just love HP. I think listening to Stephen Fry's version would be awesome though as I love him. :)

  2. I would love to try HP on audio. When I read them before I wasn’t into audiobooks and now I love them. Plus it’s time for a reread I think.

  5. I absolutely love the HP audio books! I also love just about anything Jim Dale narrates, he could make a grocery list sound good. It has been awhile since I last listened so I might do at least Sorcerer's Stone as celebration of his 20th year. Great post!

  6. I don't listen to many audiobooks, but a couple years ago I got the full set of both the US and UK Harry Potter ones. I've still barely made a dent in them (I want to be able to sit and listen, rather than use them as background noise) but I've loved what little I've heard of Jim Dale! Stephen Fry is also quite good on the UK ones. So glad to see a review of Sorcerer's Stone; I hope you do the others in the series eventually :)

  10. I don't think the Harry Potter series is for me as I read the first three books but didn't enjoy them. However, they are well loved and I am glad the audiobook makes it enjoyable to reread ^.^
