[Wrap-Up] July 2018

Wrap-Up for July 2018

Phew! July is always a crazy month.

This month began with me getting heat exhaustion, which wasn't fun... but then we had birthday week! For Jeff's birthday (red shirt below), we went to Foundry for a lovely dinner. For my birthday, we went to Mr Macs and then took a walk around a pond, which is where the photo below was taken. And then for Ross's birthday (Han Solo shirt below), we had a great birthday bash and cookout on Sunday. It was a great week!

Birthday week friends

For my birthday, Alex gifted me a six month subscription to BOTM. I still can't believe it! What a perfect gift idea!!

[Book Review] The Universe Is Expanding and So Am I by Carolyn Mackler

Book Review of The Universe Is Expanding and So Am I by Carolyn Mackler

The Universe Is Expanding and So Am I by Carolyn Mackler is the follow up novel to one of my all time favorites, The Earth, My Butt, and Other Big Round Things.

When I heard that this book was coming out, I couldn't wait to get my hands on it! Of course I had to do a quick reread of the first book before diving in to this one.

I'll admit it, my expectations were very high. And I'm so glad to say that this book did not disappoint!

Interview with Martin Ferguson

Interview with Martin Ferguson

I am so thrilled to be posting this interview today! Many thanks to Martin Ferguson for taking the time to write up responses to my questions! Especially during release week for the latest book in his Relic Hunters series, War of the Damned!

Who is Martin Ferguson?
I live in Norwich, England and am currently working on the young adult fantasy and historical series 'Relic Hunters'. Inspired by the myths and legends my parents told me as a boy and with the help of my ever-suffering wife, a teacher and history graduate, 'Eagle of the Empire' was the first entry in the 'Relic Hunters' series, followed by 'Curse of the Sands' in 2017 and 'War of the Damned' in 2018.

My work as an author began under the name Edward Drake, with the release of the fantasy series ‘The Warrior’s Journey’ and ‘Stormheart’, along with the thriller ‘Outlaws’. I was also one of the authors featured in the Little Bird Publishing House anthology ‘Night Shade’ with the horror story ‘A Beaten and Haunted Heart’.

[Book Review] The Earth, My Butt, and Other Big Round Things by Carolyn Mackler

Book photo of The Earth, My Butt, and Other Big Round Things by Carolyn Mackler

The Earth, My Butt, and Other Big Round Things by Carolyn Mackler is a frustrating but heartwarming story about a girl in high school that is struggling to get comfortable in her own skin while navigating the both the tricky world of high school and some very difficult family situations.

This was one of my favorite books in high school. In fact, when I finished reading this for the first time, I immediately put it in the hands of one of my classmates. I made such a fuss about this book, that it soon made the rounds through our high school. Granted, it was a small school, so making the rounds didn't take too long. I was just so excited to share it!

Finally, 10 years later... I've finally reread it and it was just as enjoyable the second time around!

My First Book Of The Month Box

I had been thinking about subscribing to Book of the Month for a while. The pricing wasn't bad, but with how tight our budget is with the upcoming wedding, I didn't want to risk it.

Besides, I very rarely buy new books. I mostly check them out from the library or snag them from used book stores, only purchasing books that I know I will reread time and time again. Or at least that's what I try to do. Ha! Of course I will snag a brand new book that I just couldn't wait to get from the library on occasion.

But then on my birthday, my wonderful fiancé gifted me a six-month subscription!

[Book Review] Dead Ends by Tony Moyle

Book Review of Dead Ends by Tony Moyle

Dead Ends by Tony Moyle is the third book in the How To Survive the Afterlife book series. If you're looking for a humorous read with some great characters, I highly recommend this series!

I took my time getting through this one so I could really take it all in. Even so, I was so sad when it ended simply because I didn't want it to end!

If you missed my review or interview with Tony for The Limpet Syndrome or Soul Catchers, feel free to check them out and then come back here.

Full disclosure: I was given a free copy of this book by the author in exchange for an honest review. This did not affect my rating in any way.

[Wrap-Up] June 2018

Wrap-Up for June 2018

Phew, June just flew by. Time really needs to slow down a bit! This month was a good one, but very busy per usual.

We started the month attending The Heart Walk with a bunch of people from my work. It was a very hot day, and we were a bit bummed that there wasn't water along the route... but the turnout was great and we had a lot of fun!

Work is still going well. One day this month when there was a heat advisory, our owner surprised us by having an ice-cream truck park out front to hand out free frozen treats! On another day, our street flooded... Luckily my car was out of the range of the water, but because the road slopes down on either side, a few cars weren't so lucky. Leaving work that afternoon, I was shocked to see how many cars just tried to drive on through it, like the car in the photo. This driver wasn't even at the deepest point yet...

B Yoga had a 30% off sale in honor of International Day of Yoga, so I finally replaced my horrible Manduka mat that was more dangerous than useful. I LOVE the B Mat. If you're in the market for a new yoga mat, I very highly recommend this one! You don't slip on the surface of the mat at all!

One of the highlights of this month was my bridal shower. It was such a great party! My mom and Alyssa did an amazing job organizing it!

Without further delay, let's dive in to my monthly wrap-up!
