[Comic Review] Big Mushy Happy Lump by Sarah Andersen

Sarah Andersen Big Happy Mushy Lump book image

Big Mushy Happy Lump by Sarah Andersen is a wonderful collection of adorable and incredibly relatable comics.

I flew right though this book and felt incredibly sad when I reached the end. I hope to see more from Sarah soon!

(Shout out to Heather of Heather's Reading Hideaway and her fiancé for putting this on my radar!)

Big Mushy Happy Lump by Sarah Andersen

Synopsis:
Sarah Andersen's hugely popular, world-famous Sarah's Scribbles comics are for those of us who boast bookstore-ready bodies and Netflix-ready hair, who are always down for all-night reading-in-bed parties and extremely exclusive after-hour one-person music festivals.

In addition to the most recent Sarah's Scribbles fan favorites and dozens of all-new comics, this volume contains illustrated personal essays on Sarah's real-life experiences with anxiety, career, relationships and other adulthood challenges that will remind readers of Allie Brosh's Hyperbole and a Half and Jenny Lawson's Let's Pretend This Never Happened. The same uniquely frank, real, yet humorous and uplifting tone that makes Sarah's Scribbles so relatable blooms beautifully in this new longer form.

My thoughts:
I really enjoyed this collection! So many panels made me laugh, others hit me on a deeper level because they were so relatable. One of my favorite sections was where the author writes a narrative about her anxiety and how she deals with it.

Here are some of my favorite panels to give you a taste for the comics if you haven't yet seen her work:

Sarah Andersen spending habits panel

Sarah Andersen body positivity panel

Sarah Andersen stress panel

Sarah Andersen relationship snacking panel

Sarah Andersen I Don't Care man panel

My final thoughts:
Five stars! This was such a fun read and I would highly recommend it to anyone, but particularly those that struggle with anxiety and need a laugh.

Thanks for reading!
