[Book Blogger Hop] August 25th - 31st

Book Blogger Hop

Book Blogger Hop is a weekly meme hosted by Ramblings of a Coffee Addicted Writer, where you answer a question and join a "hop". The purpose is to help bloggers discover and get to know one another.

For this week's question, Maria @ A Night's Dream of Books asks:
Have you ever read a book written in a foreign language you might be fluent in, and then read the same book in English?

My answer:
No, unfortunately I am not fluent in another language. I know some French and a little Spanish, but mostly just basic verb translations and simple conversational phrases. I don't know nearly enough to read a novel.

Thanks for reading!
So sorry that this one is so short!

  1. I'm like you and don't know enough of a foreign language to read a book written in it, not even a kids book (I've tried). - Katie

  2. I don't know a foreign language well enough to read an ad, let alone a book. I mentioned on Stormi's blog that I read a book from a dog's POV so that should count. You read Racing in the Rain too right? See you have and didn't even know it!

    1. I have this one, too. Haven't read it yet. My mom read it and said it she cried. I will have to pick it up really soon...

    2. Ooh! That sounds like a lot of fun! I love books from different perspectives. And yes, Racing in the Rain is one of my favorites!!

  3. I remember enough Spanish from high school to hopefully keep us out of trouble if the hubby and I ever travel abroad...hopefully. But certainly not enough to read an entire book, let alone a magazine/newspaper article/street sign. lol. Great answer :) This was a hard question this week.

  4. I am in the same boat as you. I admire those who are fluent in multiple languages. I took Spanish in school, but I am so out of practice.

Have a great weekend, Erica! Thank you for sharing. :-)

  6. This question is good...I am enjoying finding out about those of us who are bilingual. I know Spanish, but can't say I am bilingual. :)

    Thanks for sharing.

    Happy Hopping!!

  7. Still, it's not as if there's a lack of books in English to read! :)

  8. I'm the same way when it comes to learning the basics of the Spanish language. Great answer!

  9. Same here. I wish I was fluent in something other than English, but I am awful at learning new languages.

    1. Same :( I tried to use the Duolingo app for a bit last year. But it just wasn't working.

  10. I can speak some French and Japanese, but I'm not quite fluent in reading in those languages enough to read an adult book. Although, I have tackled some basic picture books. :)

  11. Yea, sadly I cannot read in another language I barely remember any of my Spanish from high school.

    1. It's such a bummer! I wish I could remember more French I learned in high school as well.

  12. Even though I can speak another language, I am nowhere near confident enough to read a whole novel. It really does require a lot of effort to retain a language! Thank you for stopping by earlier, hope you're having a lovely weekend :)

  13. I haven't used it in a while, but we should do DuoLingo again soon! That was so much fun when we did it together like a year ago and then kind of forgot all about it.

    1. Yeah!!! I can't remember why we stopped... :( I feel like there was a solid couple of months where we were on for a at least 1 lesson per day!
